Photographer's Note

The Old Cemetery of Menton is very particular because of the heterogeneousness of his inhabitants: diverse celebrities, real orthodox chapels surrounded with graves richly decorated for some.
The mausoleum of the Polish princess Janina Jelowickich Lewandowska, is certainly the most beautiful of the cemetery. The statue which overhangs him represents the flight of a young woman outside its coffin. The princess is 27-year-old dead woman of the consequences of a tuberculosis.
We notice moreover that the cemetery contains numerous graves of young persons of whole Europe, come to menton in the hope of a cure but the state of which aggravated because of the rather wet atmosphere of the city.

Le Vieux Cimetière de menton est très particulier du fait de l’hétérogénéité de ses habitants : personnes célèbres diverses, véritables chapelles orthodoxes entourées de tombes richement décorées pour certaines.
Le mausolée de la princesse polonaise Janina Jelowickich Lewandowska, est certainement le plus beau du cimetière. La statue qui le surplombe représente l'envol d'une jeune femme hors de son cercueil.La princesse est morte à 27 ans des suites d'une tuberculose.
On remarque d'ailleurs que le cimetière renferme de nombreuses tombes de personnes jeunes de l'Europe entière, venues à Menton dans l'espoir d'une guérison mais dont l'état s'aggravait du fait de l'atmosphère plutôt humide de la ville.

bonjour Jean-Jacques
magnifique POV donnant l'impression que la statue s'élève dans les airs.Elle est superbe, cette statue,mais aussi tout ce qui l'entoure, et ce site est mis e valeur par une magnifique lumière chaude qui le fait se détacher des montagnes ombragées.

encore des couleurs très chaudes sur ces pierres, les lumières intenses font ressortir tellement fort, cette statue par rapport au ciel plus sombre derrière.

Bonjour Jean Jacques,

A superb shot of the ghostly apparition seemingly floating above the rooftoops. Maybe a slight step to the left, so that the background cross does not give the appearance of supporting her? But I know from experience this is not always possible. Maybe the disadvantage would outweigh the advantage. Could be an ugly bg tv tower exposed, by a just a slight shift left. Anyway, formidable sharpness and I like the warm cold color contrast between the amber & blue. Merci!

Tu es parti au bon moment à Menton, juste avant que la météo tourne à l'orage ! J'aime beaucoup cette photo, pour sa profondeur de vue et l'équilibre entre l'ombre et la lumière. La statue, gracieuse, est magnifique, même si ta note nous ramène à une réalité plus sombre.

Il est vrai que cette statue ne manque pas d'élégance dans la vision que tu nous en propose. Le cadrage est juste ce qu'il faut pour en apprécier la légèreté résurrectionnelle.
La lumière et les couleurs qui en résultent sont chaleureuses et contribuent sans doute à la dédramatisation du lieu.

The point of view enhances the fascination of this extraordinary statue placing it against the dark view of the sloping town and the pale sky while making the most of the warm afternoon light.
