Walking along the cliff, a photo from Corse, South

Photographer's Note

One of the most fine and interesting walk one can do when visiting Bonifacio is the foot path which goes from the town towards East, following the brink of the cliff, to the lighthouse of Capo Pertusato. This photo is taken from this path at about half a hour walk from Bonifacio (see map link for a more exact location). It takes from two to three hours to reach the lighthouse, and almost all the way is flat with only some small uphill. The whole area is a natural reserve and the panorama is worth while in every direction. With fine weather its possible to distinguish the houses of Santa Teresa across the Strait of Bonifacio in the nearby Sardinia.

The Mediterranean sunlight and the circular polariser seem to have created a lively atmosphere here, the light and shades play tricks and give a considerable depth to the picture. The speeding boat acts as a balancing spot in the composition.

Sans doute un des plus beaux points de vues sur Bonifacio et ses falaises . C'est magnifiquement composé avec le coin d'herbe au premier plan , les gros rochers , puis le village . Le bateau et le joli ciel complètent à merveille cette image lumineuse et colorée .

J'aurais beaucoup aimé avoir un ciel aussi beau lors de mon séjour à Bonifacio.Le cadrage vertical donne une belle profondeur à l'image et la lumière fait resplendir la blancheur de la pierre sur laquelle la ville est érigée.

C'est vrai que cette balade est à ne manquer sous aucun prétexte, les points de vue sont fabuleux sur Bonifacio et ses falaises de calcaire ! Au-delà du phare, on peut aussi continuer en direction de la Plage Saint-Antoine et profiter de la baignade !

Come ho detto a Paolo per la sua foto: ACCIDENTI, MARRONAMIA CHE FOTO! Questa isola e' proprio intrigante e spettacolare, credo condividiamo lo stesso apprezzamento per questo tipo di natura. Incredibile i colori e le strutture delle scoglie. Sembra che il Dio ha lasciato smeraldo e saffire nel mare. Il scelto del taglio verticale era buonissimo, dando la scena anche piu' profundita. Eccellente anche lo sharp. In verita, hai trovato paradiso sulla terra. Complimenti, la foto e' un tesoro.

A good tip for a hike to remember.
It looks like you were standing on the farthest edge of a cliff to take this picture.

Hi Donato,

I was truly impressed by you Defying Gravity II photo. When you see such photo you might think that it is not possible to take a better photo than this. But with the marvelous lighting and weather conditions you had at this occasion it is indeed possible. I have experienced this myself many times, not the least when I took my latest post that you critiqued yesterday. I am glad that seized the opportunity to take more photos at this occasion. You photo is really brilliant. It makes me shudder of pleasure to look it. It is almost as being present. It has to do with the way you have composed the photo, the perspective, the excellent depth and the sharpness in every detail. You could really feel that you are high cliff above the emerald water below. The rocks in the water are a perfect lead in to Bonifacio in the background. The boat is an extra bonus. Wow! Looks like the fg used to be a rock arch that has fallen in upon itself, judging from the now tilted sediment layers in the rock. However, the coastal scenery is still quite spectacular. Tfs!

A perfect shot is from a great perspective. Rocks and cliffs overlooking pristine blue sea are such as fairy tales. Houses Integrated with rocks are stunning and eye-catching . I can fully understand your enthusiasm of this place and the walk along the foot path, where you could see this kind of views! The composition in vertical format is wonderful and especially the foreground separate rocks are a great detail. Also the diagonals in this composition make this attractive. The rugged formations and textures of the rocks are rendered very well wit excellent sharpness and clarity. The light was somewhat harsh, but you managed to control it quite well. The sea with its varying colours is beautiful and so is the sky with no sign of excess polarizer darkening. Last but not least, a lovely summer atmosphere. My compliments!

Extraordinary point of view on this spectacular site. It's so crazy how the houses have been built right up to the very edges of the steep cliffs. Your composition creates a fine depth with the land reaching diagonally towards the sea. A lot of textured sharp details in the rocks and houses. Great contrast between the beautiful hues of turquoise colour in the water and the white of the rocks. Good handling of the bright sunlight. Did you know that the small rock island on the foreground is called "the sand grain" ? A high quality image.

A very popular with tourists and the steep limestone cliffs are very spectacular and have been much photographed i think. The best way to enjoy the view is from the sea or from high vantage point such as this. So very well exposed in the sunlight to get every detail of fascinating limestone rock formation, lovely colours as well impressive scenery and perfectly aligned with the mid and foreground well oriented this way in semi circular formation in between vibrant turquoise water. Some fine textures and strata there, its truly nature wonder and hard to miss! Another great shot, Donato

fantastico, se si guarda il mare nella parte bassa della foto, sembra veramente di guardare dentro uno smeraldo. Come sempre scegli posti assolutamente stupendi, ma è pur vero anche che sai proporceli con eccellente qualità fotografica, tale da farci apprezzare esattamente quello che tu hai visto nel momento dello scatto. La bravura del fotografo sta proprio in questo, ovvero riuscire a trasmettere le proprie emozioni con una fotografia. Ci sei riuscito alla grande!

Amazing scene...first I have to comment on the colour & clarity of the water..amazing. The chalk cliffs have eroded creating almost vertical walls over which the town tantalisingly nestles. The small breakaway liff part in the FG has been further exposed to the waves & have tilted with its bottom side having been weathered away. The boat with its trailing line adds to the scene. Wonderful picture in fine light...the picture is really excellent!

this is probably even better take of this wonderful view. It makes me really want to go to Corse some day. The cliffs are so unique, their shapes and interesting white color are amazing. The colors seem fantastic across the whole image with the variety of blue and green tones. The town hanging on top of the cliffs in the distance and the motorboat passing by add so much interest here.

Bello il verde di giugno...a settembre ho vosto solo gialli qui anche se al tramonto devo dire che non sono male. Anche secondo me questo è il punto di cattura migliore, le ho fatte anche io da lì.
L'ultima volta poi mi è piaciuto anche il percorso nella roccia che hanno ricavato sul lato opposto, dopo la lunga scalinata, molto bello, anni fà non c'era, o forse non lo avevo visto.

A really good job done by you by taking a vertical frame instead of a wide one.. The aqua color sea with blue sky and white rocks are just like wallpaper.

Also the speed boat in the far most added a extra in your picture.

A wonderful composition with these amazing and beautiful cliffs, vertical format allows us to view from the large rocks in the foreground, the background to the cliffs on which sits the city, which gives you an excellent DOF to the image.
Beautiful color, with this range of blues and greens of the sea, contrasting with the white rock of the coast.

Welcome back ! Or have I missed many since your sojourn sailing ?

Either way, This is a wonderfully evocative picture of a place I love; Corsica in general, and Bonifacio in particular. If I remember rightly, there are some caves along this route, just below the cliff edge, of some particular historical interest ?

You have caught the essence of the place, the beautiful cliffs; and the light you have conveyed - nothing like anywhere else I've been, though I never went as far as Sardinia !

Wonderful work. A very worthy two points !

Good choice to make a certical picture, because
it gives the picture an extra highness and an
extra depth.
The great composition makes the picture nice
calmness and the great light management creates
a lots of details (no overlightede pieces, or
