On my way back home from a library, I happened to encounter filming on location. They were all dressed up like people from 19th century. They all looked splendid. As I was passing by them, of course, I wanted to take some photographs. Since it was taking place at the place des Vosges There were many spectators. I wondered how I could approach them. But there was only one-way finally, simply to go up to one of them and bravely ask them. And that is what I did. She was very generous. She accepted to pose for me almost immediately. So here it is my very first portrait. She is not smiling but on the second shot, she is. But for today I would post the serious version.

Hi Nobu, at the first glance I assumed that this portrait belonged to a painting of 18-19th centuries. But your note made me very surprised. Despite having been taken a few years ago, the costume, general appearance of the lady and the tonning of the photo still take me back to centuries ago. Congratulations, Tolga

I love the light and colours. Good expression too. Almost like an impressionist painting.

Marvelous work, Nobu! Her beauty is haunting and you have captured it. I'm eager to see the smiling one but I have a feeling I will prefer this one, since her expression somehow seems to take us into the time of her costume. The delicate colors also suggest the past to me. How shocking the bolder colors of the impressionists were in a world where all the paintings were done over a canvas prepared with brown...
You give me courage to ASK people. But sometimes, especially here in USA, they pose for you instead of being natural and that ruins everything. This girl is an actress and so she can pose without looking posed...

Really a heart-beat accelerator-picture, Nobu.

This is very beautiful! It could have been taken in the 19th century, but the color gives away its true date. :-) I like the soft look on her face, and the way her period clothes match the background surroundings so well. She seems to belong to a different time and place. You were brave to ask for a photo. I've done it a few times myself. :-)

Salut cher Nobu
This looks like a painting. In the miniature, I thought you had taken a photo of a painting. I love the soft colours, they contribute to a dream-like atmosphere and emphasise this beautiful lady's softness and femininity. I like that she is not smiling. There is something almost Mona Lisa about her. Congratulations, I am sure she would love this photo.

the pose as the portrait of the actrss, as sitting on the chair and wearing this old style dress is well looking as it's well capturing. The light and the colours of the image is superb.

Hi dear Nobu!
What a delicate portrait!!
Wonderful mood and colours...a kind of ancient capture really well realized...colour tones are moody here and fits really well to the sense of the ancient films...

What a remarkably elegant and beautiful woman, straight out of the late 19th century. You were brave to stand and take the portrait, and she was gracious to accomodate you. This would make a first class subject for a painting. I plan to free up some room among my favorites and "hang" this work of art in that gallery. When I was critiquing this shot, I meant to point out that you have inadvertently placed one of the subject's eyes (her right) very close to the vertical centerline, just as the master portrait painters used to do.
paololg (31448) 2011-10-09 14:32
Ciao dear Nobu,
beautiful portrait, this girl has a pleasant and enigmatic expression, a very sweet face. I appreciate especially the soft tones of color and the pleasant light that creates an atmosphere particularly suited to her dress of the nineteenth century. Excellent choice of vertical format. Sincere congratulations!
Ciao, have a nice week!

A very beautiful portrait of this young lady in 19th century attire. I like her natural pose with lots of curiosity on her face. The image looks like a painting and shows the skill of the photographer. Very natural colors and given lots of attention to the details. A superb composition.
