Photographer’s Note

October 20th, 2004
Saint-Pierre also called "Small Paris of the Antilles", was at the beginning of the 20 century the economic and cultural capital of the island, until its destruction by the eruption of the Mountain Pelée, May 8, 1902, the Ascension Day, a few minute after 8 a.m. The nuée burning one made 30.000 victims. There were two survivors, of which Cyparis a prisoner protected by the big walls of its cell.
The photograph that I show you is taken inside the museum reporting this catastrophe. It is the old bell (the bumblebee) of the cathedrale, broken by the explosion and diformed by heat.

La photo illustre bien la note et elle est techniquement sans reproche. Enfin, juste un, le cadre qui fait trop penser à une carte postale et qui distrait le regard. Je préfère un cadre noir tout simple. A part cela, la photo mérite le détour !

Tiens, de retour sur TE... A propos de la photo, il s'agit d'une belle présentation de ce que peut faire comme dégâts un volcan... A quand les images de la montagne pelée?

Bonjour Jacques, un e image impressionante, que la cloche ait pu etre eventree comme ca est proprement stupefiant ! Bonne prise de vue qui illustre bien le propos.

La lumiere est tres bonne pour une photo prise en interieur.
L'angle de vue par rapport a la lumiere est aussi celui qui met en evidence la felure.
J'ai propose un atelier sur le seul petit point negatif a mon gout: l'ouverture etait visiblement la plus grande possible et pourtant la profondeur de champ est encore trop grande pour bien mettre en evidence la cloche.

Impressive evidence of the forces of nature, Jacques. Your POV really show us how the bell has been ripped apart, but also leave such details as the text possible to read and the texture of the crack well visible. Your inclusion of the rest of the museum as backdrop, slightly out of focus, showing the surroundings, is good too. Very well done!

Excellente photo, et très pédagogique! Elle illustre bien a quel point les nuées ardentes sont catastrophiques et dévastatrices pour l'homme et son environnement. Une photo impressionnante, merci de nous la faire partager!

Interesting composition and playing with depth of field. Interesting note as well. I have added the photo to a new group theme I created for this kind of bells.
