The Louvre glass pyramid has become one of the most favoured photo subjects and a landmark in Paris despite the controversy the construction of it triggered in the 1980s. Many people felt that the futuristic pyramid was misplaced in the courtyard of the Louvre Museum with its classical architecture. Nowadays people seem to love the contrast between the pyramid and the classical architecture.
The Louvre Museum in Paris is the largest museum in France and the most visited museum in the world. Louvre Museum was founded in 1793 and originally it housed the royal art collection. In 1980s the French president Mitterrand initiated a renovation of the Louvre museum. This project was named Grand Louvre. A large entrance hall was built in the form of a glass pyramid, designed by the architect I.M g Pei. The pyramid was placed in the middle of the Cour Napoleon. The pyramid is sourrounded by three smaller pyramids. The pyramid is one of the entrances to the museum.
This is my 5th picture of a series of pictures of the pyramid taken in the same evening from different perpectives and/or in different lighting. This is taken from more or less the same POV as my 3rd post but with another format and composition.

Another beautiful photo from Paris! Original composition and good reflection! TFS!
Happy New Year!

A fine play of light, shadows and reflections and good use of the huge architectural contrast between the two components.
I was wondering if including the people makes sense or not. They provide scale and depth and make the photo more lively but maybe also distract from the architecture. But now after looking a while I believe you are right.

You are putting together quite a series of Louvre Images and this is the best so far imo. The timing for the blue hour is just about right and the reflections are gorgeous. I particularly like the little family group silhouetted against the pyramid too.
Happy New Year

The regularity of the reflections here create a fine pattern in this capture. Once again I am impressed by the successful contrast between the traditional architecture and the very modern pyramide.

Another splendid picture of the Louvre and the pyramid. I think it's good to have included people on the picture, for the depth and to add some life. And then I specially mean those three persons at the left close to the pyramid and who's reflections we can also see.
Great colours and contrasts !
Best regards, Paul

aha, a new version, probably the best one. The reflection here is more than a simple duplication: its softer image gives a somewhat romantic or lyric impression - OK, not really adequate words for the pyramide but, finally, even this strong contrast is unique and typical for the Louvre. Though a very good composition and perfectly realized I find the presentation of the Sully facade for coarse - too small file size or oversharpened? It's a pity since the composition and atmosphere are more than very good.

I think that it is better than your last picture. Here, the details and the lights are better. Congratulations!

I guess I even like this one better! I like the format, the way you included the persons on the left side, the good exposure and the reflection, making a perfect symmetry. A very good shot!

A superb and very impressive impression of symetry with these nice nad incredibile reflections. The balck silhouets giev an interesting and a little mysterious element of life. Superb balance in the color between the blue and the dored color. And always this very good mixt between modern ad old architectur.
Have a nice day,

A great shot Ulf!
The composition is very accurate and well built, dividing the photogram symmethrically and two things makes it really special: the wonderful reflections and the presence of the three people. As I told you I'm amazed about how many good compositions you were able to find here! And besides the technical quality is very good. The façade of the Louvre is incredibly sharp and one can appreciate every small detail, furthermore the light and colours are fantastic. Fine contrast with the sky too. Really a remarkable picture!
An excellent work!
My compliments and best wishes for the New Year,

Hello my dear Ulf
This is an another great shot!
Marvelous framework first of all, nice composition and perfect light control are so admirable as usual.
Nice symmetry approach! That is the best way, I suppose.
Thanks for sharing and best regards,
Have a good day!

A classical image well realized and sharp, the tripod use compensated for the wide aperture set by your compact
have a nice day JY

Hello Ulf. The vertical format really opens up with excellent viewing. I really love the angles, reflections and dynamic lighting in your photo too. Thanks for sharing.
pablominto (53746) 2009-12-30 23:50
Possibly the best in the series and not only because of the fitting format!
Composition wise I like inclusion of the three persons, and the slightly blurred mirror adds impact...
Great colour palette!
On this last day of December I also wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!

of all the several photos of the same pyramide which you posted I like this one best. IMHO, the vertical variant is the best (with the reflection, of course!)
I like your ideas of photos taken from unusual or "irregular" points of view :)
Very best Happy New Year wishes from Stockholm :-)

Amazing capture in blue hour. The pyramid is most beautiful with the lighting. Stunning colors and lovely reflections. Good inclusion of people peering through the glass.
Have a nice week

I really like the detail of the architecture and the way it stands out against the old building.
best wishes and have a nice day

Great use of the reflection in this fine blue hour shot. The reflection adds depth and balance for the scene. The off center placement of the pyramid works well creating nice line and angles for the shot.

You have several good shots from Louvre in your gallery, but I like especially this one. The reflections are just gorgeous. I also like the new, light pyramid (Louvre) against the old, dark castle. Maybe a good idea also to not include the top of the pyramid. Don't really know why, but it just look better like this.

Beautiful symmetry, excellent compo-half of the glass pyramid, the impressive old building, the light into the pyramid and on the facade, the blue and the gold, the contemplating visitors.
Have a nice Sunday !

As you said ,,"The Louvre glass pyramid has become one of the most favoured photo subjects" but this is one of the most well shot I ever saw,

Good morning Ulf,
A fantastic night picture, showing the Louvre and Pyramids mirror beautifully on the marble floor.
Blue hour aperture and shutter were immaculately set.
good scale achieved with the people/family silhouettes on left side on picture space.
Have a nice Friday,
