Stripes, a photo from Champagne-Ardenne, North

Photographer's Note

We were driving along the N77 between Saint-Florentin, where we had spent the night, and Troyes, where we would be joining the motorway. It was a very cold morning with the temperature below zero. I stopped to take some pictures in the morning light, along the road.

Hello Gunnar

You follow the wake of Jonathan_hart with this kind of graphical shots ;o). The same region in France and the same perfect use of the natural geometry of the fields.
The two main colours are very eyecatching and are enhanced by the dull sky and the weak light.
Perfect to bring the play of lines out.
It's just a pity that's your sky is a bit noisy, otherwise the quality is fine.
I propose a WS to reduce a little the grain.
However, a great composition, compliments.

Hello Gunnar,
The strongly geometric field patterns make for a very interesting composition. The tree line is well placed in the composition and makes a pleasing contrast with the green and golds of the lower landscape. We could have asked for a nice blue sky but that photographer has to make do with what is available at the time! Excllent colour contrasts and good sharpness.

Hello Gunnar,

I think you must have had some difficulties over this one, as I see that it is version 15!

A very appealing pattern of fields, with a green/brown transition lying on the lower line of thirds.

There are some strong diagonals in the cultivation of the fields, and there is a good sense of perspective across the fields to the trees and the sky.

On the technical side, there is a bit of noise in the sky, and there is some slight overall flatness of the image. Looking at the histogram in "Levels", I can see that this can be explained by the line of the graph finishing a bit short of the right [white] end of the curve.

In my WS, I have adjusted the levels – Auto levels and Auto contrast, to correct the histogram, and I also have used Neat Image to remove some of the noise.

Finally, I've suggested an alternative less square crop.

Hej Gunnar,
A very clever composition by the local farmer and well done by you to notice it while concentrating on driving. The lines are very colourful and attractive. Although it was cold and probably slightly hazy I think this would have looked even better with just a bit more contrast.
Anyway it's a very elegant picture.

The vast plains, without hedges and planned for the intensive agriculture and mechanized, are appropriate well for this kind of photograph. Alternations of bands green and ocher are better effect. It is well seen and very quite carried out. Cheer.

"natural" stripes are always so effective, especially when they go in different directions: horizontal, diagonal... thus a sense of dynamism is created. I see a slight autumnal haze, which also adds atiny bit nostalgic mood to this scene :)
Very good composition!
I've looked a the WS variants offered by TE members... it was so interesting to compare them! anyway I guess I still prefer the original "hazy" version :)

this one appealed to me visually right away.
i like the criss cross and strong colourful lines.
