Photographer’s Note

Second in a short series of pictures taken on the Bus de Mer or water taxi in La Rochelle.

The Bus de Mer runs between the Minimes yacht marina and the Vieux Port in La Rochelle. The crossing time is 15 to 20 minutes and at 1.30€ each way, I reckon it's a bargain. The boats run every day between April and September and on weekends and bank holidays only outside this period. Frequency varies according to the time of year, timings can be consulted on the La Rochelle Tourist Office web site.

Hi Stephen,
The surge after this boat makes a fine part of this picture. The green lighthouse is also an important part of your composition. Is this photo taken at low tide, that breakwater barrier (?) in the background looks quite high?

Une composition très graphique avec la trave oblique laissée par l'écume qui vient rejoindre une autre oblique tracée par la jetée du port. L'alignement des mats des voiliers donne du rythme, du graphisme, du dynamisme à l'image.

Hi Stephen, I can see this is taken from a different POV to your previous posting. I like the effect of the masts partially obscured by the seawall. The positioning of the boat to the left, with all that space on the right gives us the idea of expectation - of a journey. Very dynamic, TFS and enjoy your Monday, Lisa.

Très belle image maritime. Tu t'es offert une mini-croisière des Minimes au Vieux-Port que je connais ;o)
Bomme capture avec des couleurs naturelles et du mouvement. Depuis ton POV on apprécie la hauteur de la digue.

Tes images de la Rochelle me donne la nostalgie de ma région, que je ne désespère pas de rejoindre, et en attendant, dans laquelle je ferai encore des séjours fréquents. La lumière est excellente, Bravo.

merveilleus image, ce bâteau derrier les traces d'un autre qui a passé, un corisement de vagues, avec le graphisme de mâts derrière la jetée, sueprbe image marine.

Well composed using the rule of thirds, with the myriad of bg tall masts poking up above the breakwater, contrasting well, against the solitary fg boat. Excellent pastel colours with superb sharpness & framing. Tfs!
