Photographer’s Note

The chapel was built from 1816 onwards by the dowager Duchess of Orléans, and was extended by her son, King Louis-Philippe, who made it the necropolis of the members of his family and his descendants. Its numerous windows were decorated with sumptuous stained glass, all made by the Sèvres factory. Some twenty tombs, grouped around the royal grave, are topped with recumbent effigies, works of the best sculptors of their time.
