Photographer’s Note
Good Morning Everyone,
This is my last posting from the Second World War Memorial at St. Malo.
This shows the relationship between the gun emplacements and the old town. These gun emplacements were high on the cliff protecting the harbour. In my w/s, I will place a close-up, portraying the damage that was incurred.
In the week which recognises the 70th anniversary of the war, I hope that memorials like this will act as a reminder to us all, of the terrible human scarifice that occurs when we take up arms against oneanother.
I was not alive when the war occurred but I have been moved and enlightened.
Have a good day everyone.
Thank you for your interest.
Please feel free to feedback on any aspect of the photograph. Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
A fine perspective across to the lovely city of Saint Malo; I like the way the church spire rises above the rest of the architecture soaring into the sky. Pleasing light with good colours and clarity.

Hello Beverley,
Very efficience and superb composition. The FG very well selected give a great prospect to the city. I like the beautiful harmony of the warm colors under a beautiful sky well colected too. Good balance in the composition too.
Best regards,

Hi Bev.
I thought when I saw the thumbnail, 'It just has to be St-Malo!' It's that single tower above a host of uniform brown buildings! But this view of the town I have never seen - it's an interesting follow-up to your previous shot, only the light is perhaps a bit better. Very good composition of the ruins in front of this impeccably preserved town under a soft but pleasing sky. Makes good use of the shadowed areas. I wonder if you have been to any of the D-day beaches, with their many interesting memorials. We managed a half day on the Normandy coast in June, and it was equally arresting and fascinating.
Regards,
Andrew

Great image Bev, the detail of the town and it's hard boundaries is awesome. We seem to be looking over something, is it the causeway leading to a bridge that is no longer there? Great work.

It is a beautiful image looking over to the lovely town of St Malo. You had great light and you composed the image well. Although this is undoubtably the most picturesque of the two images you posted, in some ways I wish you had also posted the WS as a main; either alternatively or in addition another day. Like you, I find it very moving. When we see the size of the craters made by the artillery it brings it home to us, how anyone in the path would not stand a chance. What I struggle to get my head round is the fact that worldwide, over 50 million people were killed in WWII. That's only 10 million less than the entire UK population.

Hi Beverley,
I have seen so many images of St. Malo here on this site, but I have never seen one from this unique POV. Excellent photo work! The sky adds a nice mood of summer and is beautifully contrasting with the walls. But it is the plea in your note that really touches me as a member of the nation that started this cruel war. TFS!
Warm regards

Hi Beverley,
Quite a contrast between the foregoround ruins and the the very neat town in the background. The long rows of exactly similar houses make a very good and effectful view. I must say that those houses are far more attractive than the ruins here.
Kind regards
Gunnar
