Strong Boyard (phonetic pronunciation: / bojar/) is a fortification located between the island of Aix and the island of Oléron, attached to the commune of Island of Aix in the department of the Charente-Maritime. It was built initially to protect the roads from XVII century the English marine, but was never useful because time to build it the ranges of the guns had increased well and could pass over. Strong Boyard forms integral part of the Maritime Arsenal of Rochefort which extends throughout the estuary from Charente. It is today a property of the general council of the Charente-Maritime the strong fact the object of a classification to the title of the historic buildings since 1950 the strong one is 68 meters long on 31 meters broad, for a total surface of 2689m². The enclosing walls culminate with 0meters. It is built on a named sand bank "skirts of Boyard" which gave its name at the height. It is visible since Fouras, since the bridge which connects the island of Oléron to the continent (southern of the island), since the headlight of Chassiron by good weather (extreme north of the island) and also from the city of the Small rock. Certain summers, within the framework of the "Sites in Scenes", a fireworks is drawn there, that one can see since all the beaches of the neighbourhoods.
