Photographer’s Note

October 17th, 2004.
Its in 1639 that Duparquet, the gonernor of the Martinique, has built the fort called "Fort-Royal" at the beginning, and now "Fort-Saint-Louis". The town grows around of this fort. It take the name of "Foyal", and after "Fort-de-France".It is in 1681 that the town of Saint-Pierre" loss the title of capital of the Martiniuqe for the new town.
The town has not groth a lot in the 18th century due to some disasters (flood, epidemic, hurricane, earthquake). It's after the catastrophe of 1902, that destroy the city of Saint-Pierre, that Fort-de-France know a truth explosion of people, growing from 10'000 to 100'000 people now. This is representing about the trird of the Martinique.

The picture, taken from a boat coming from the Pointe-du-Bout, shon you the port, the old city with its cathedral. and the new city on the hills.

Quel mixage d'architectures de maisons coloniales aux HLM style Sarcelles, le bâtiment au milieu en arrière-plan ressemble à celui où j'habite.
La composition est bien photographiée, mais quel dommage cette urbanisation qui à gâché ces belles collines.

Et nous continuons notre voyage en Martinique... C'est vrai que pour moi, qui ne connaît pas du tout, ces grands immeubles sur la colline c'est pas vraiment l'idée que je me faisais de cet endroit! Par contre j'aime bien l'église aux tons crémeux avec son grand clocher pointu!

Très belle image Jacques. J'aime beaucoup le point de vue qu'elle offre avec toutes ces batiments dans la montagne. On semble approcher la surpopulation dans cette endroit. Belle composition également avec le bateau qui s'approche.

J'aime bien les couleurs vives de l'image, contraste de vert, de bleu et de blanc. Bien que la ville a l'air très urbanisée, ils ont réussi à préserver de la verdure et à conserver l'église "au milieu du village". Merci du partage, Jacques.

A good shot, Jacques, with a lot of details to look at. There's a lot of Mediterranean/California resemblances in my eyes, although the church seems to be special and rather impressive. Your composition is very nice with the cathedral and the buoy in center, but off-set with the meeting catamaran and - via the huge church tower - the high slope to your right crowned by a couple of dominant official buildings and a French flag. Very nice colors and great sharpness, although the jpeg compression is shown in such a detailed image. Very well done!

Une très jolie photo, bien cadrée et au couleurs généreuses. J'aime bien le cadre également, qui met bien en valeur la composition. La note est intéressante, merci.
