Afternoon at Cote Vermeille Photo

Photographer’s Note

Côte Vermeille, the last few kilometres of the shore before Spain, where the Pyrenees sweep down to the sea, helds a handful of attractive seaside villages. Travelling south, Argèles Plage is the first resort you come to, from where you can pass on to the fishing towns of Collioure, Port-Vendres and Banyuls.

In this moody photo shot from the gate to the village Port-Vendres we are about in the middle of Cote Vermeille - starting in Argeles Plage at the distant lights and then continue to the back of this position down to the Spanish border. In all some 25-30km.

From this hill you can have a fine walk from Port-Vendres to the lighthouse at Cap Bear and over the cliffs to the bay Paulille on the road to Banyuls sur Mer.

There's interesting contrast between darkish sea and sunset sky. Effect of wind shows well both on water and clouds. And string of lights is nice on the coast.

What an impressive shot. The light mangement is perfect. What is absloutely amazing is how you have capture the red light of the lighthouse and also the light far far away. Colours and composition are also excellent. TFS and have a nice evening!

Dear Jack,

your photos are always informative as well as fine, like this one where together with a fabulous sunset one can see the entrance of this harbour and its light signal. I'm a sailing enthusiast and I love harbours and sea. I like this composition with a beautiful dark sea and a clear sky, whith the jetty pointinig toward the setting sun. And I can see that this harbour is not safe, because the wind is blowing directly into the entrance, and so if there is no other jetty at the left to shelter it the boats moored inside will roll the whole night! (:-

Hi Jack,
I understand why this place is called Côte Vermeille (in Portuguese, vermelho means red - same root of this word, I guess). The pier and the lighthouse pointing to this magnificent sky - what a beautiful composition!

This picture deserve more succes because there is a very good control of the exposure especially for the small lights, not any over exposure.
Good balance of the lights, very sharp picture.

Great sunset shot with beautiful sky colors, the rough sea was very well captured the same with the pier and lighthouse in the fg. Your high POV help a lot the amazing view from a high point. Very well captured. TFS.
