In Saint-Savin, the parish church, romanesque abbey church of the 11th century, of the Saint-Savin abbey, nicknamed "romanesque sistine chapel" by André Malraux, 1901-1976, Minister of the Cultural affairs from 1959 till 1969. Registered on Historic monuments since 1840, and classified in UNESCO world heritage since 1983.
The church, built on the left bank of the GARTEMPE, is impressive by its size, 76 m length, 77 m height.
It also stands out by its murals 11th 12th centuries.
The frescoes of the hall describe the Apocalypse, those of the stand describe the Passion and the Resurrection of the Christ, whereas the frescoes of the nave describe themes of the Old Testament. The paintings of the choir and the crypt are dedicated to Saint-Savin and Saint-Cyprien.

The Saint-Savin abbey was probably established at the beginning of the 9th century under Charlemagne, 742?-814, under the name of Saint-Savin.

_ The GARTEMPE is a river of Poitou and of the Limousin, which takes its source close to the village of Pétillat, the commune of Peyrabout in the department of Creuse, and is thrown in the Creuse river close of "la Roche-Posay" in the department of Vienne, after a way of almost 204 kilometers in a catchment area of 3913 km². It crosses remarkable canyons in granitic landscapes, downstream from "Les Portes de l'Enfer", "The Doors of the Hell” to Lathus in Vienne. Description de la Gartempe.
SAINT-SAVIN is a french commune, located in the department of Vienne of the Poitou-Charentes area, populated of 907 Saint-Savinois in 2009, divided on 18.8 km², that is to say 48.2 hab./km².
Saint-Savin is crossed by the river GARTEMPE, passable by a bridge of the 11th century, Registered on Historic monuments since 1896.
The GARTEMPE valley concentrates from Montmorillon to Saint-Savin, in Vienne departement, several romanesque churches decorated with frescos of the 14th century, and is called for that, the FRESCOS VALLEY.

Salut Joel ,
Quelle chance tu as eu d'avoir ce groupe de bonnes soeurs arrivant à l'église . Encore fallait il avoir le bon timing pour les "capturer" au bon endroit et réussir ainsi la composition . j'aime bien l'effet de mouvement créé par le vent dans les étoffes .

Bonsoir, cher Joël,
Quel plaisir de contempler cette prise de vue. Il semble que le vent soufflait fort ce jour-là à voir les robes et soutanes se soulever.
Quant aux liens et particulièrement celui ayant trait à la visite virtuelle, quel régal ! Je n'ai eu de cesse de m'exclamer par des oh ! des ah ! des "Magnifiques"...
L'humour est fort apprécié dans cette réalisation.

La présence des religieux a un effet d'échelle de grandeur. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails et les couleurs de l'architecture des maisons. La lumière a un bel effet sur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

Hello Joel,
You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the spectacle that friars and nuns are entering to the parish church. It's interesting that they are wearing black/long clothes and the nun has attached the white scarf to the head, too. And, it's a tasteful building for post office in behind.
