Notre-dame la Grande church, collegial and parochial one of XIème XIIème century, place of the Market.

A collegiate church is a church served and administered by a college of canons or prebendaries, presided over by a dean or provost. In its governing a collegiate church is similar to a cathedral, although a collegiate church is not the seat of a bishop. Collegiate churches were often supported by (sometimes extensive) lands held by the church

One is unaware of the exact origin of this religious establishment, mentioned for the first time in 924 in the cartulaire of Redon. The building is rebuilt Romance in second half of XIe century, and is devoted in 1086 by the future pope Urbain II.

Caractèristique of the Romanesque architecture poitevine of Notre-Dame la Grande, the frontage presents three stages:
With the first a central gate in semicircular arch and two side gates in gothic arches are.
With the second two galleries of arcades recoivent statues of saints on both sides of a central bay.
With the third one sees a pediment decorated in his center with a mandorle.
The entirely carved frontage is a chief of famous Romance work of art in the whole world.

At the interior, fresco of origin remain around the chorus and in a crypt, but the church received in 1851 a painted decoration.
At the interior also, in the Sainte-Anne chapel, known as "of Insane", is a setting with the tomb carved out of polychrome stone, of XVIe century. Christ is deposited in a sarcophagus by Joseph d'Arimathie and Nicodème, under the glance of the Virgin, supported by saint Jean, and two holy women

Poitiers is a french commune, located in the department of Vienna of the Poitou-Charentes area, populated of 83448 Pictaviens, distributed on 43 km², that is to say 1963 hab./km².

Hello Joël,
A splendid capture of this most beautiful church, with a nice sky and a few passers-by to create a nice atmosphere. The day I was there the weather was miserable and damp and there was a market stall set up to the right :-( The details in the façade and the stonework are perfectly captured with natural colours and very good clarity. A fine piece of work.

Hi Joel,
22nd of July, a central place and only 4 people to see ! Most probably you have done this capture quite early in the morning.
But Poitiers is a place, which we know from our history books; the war of Poitiers.
The capture is fine, with a nice sight light, and the info's perfect; alltogether a good TE entry; both photographycally and informative perfectness.

Excelente captura de esta bella iglesia, que se parece un poco, sólo un poco, a algunas iglesias italianas. La arquitectura es muy bonita con un exterior muy decorado y lleno de detalles. Me gusta mucho la fachada y especialemente las torres. Extupenda realización.

Hello Joël,

Quelle est parfaitement cadrée cettte église, collégiale, quelle belle façade avec le tours, de la vivacité avec les personnages, qui nous permet de se rendre compte de la grandeur de la collégiale, ces Pictaviens on bien de la chance d'avoir un si belle collégiale.

Cette marveille en pierre s'étale magnifiquemente contre un ciel estivale (je vois que l'image est tirée en juillet).
Contrast très bas, parfait.

Joel, this is great, the scale is so deceiving. Without the people it could feel much larger than it is but you have included the people and it works very well. Color and lighting are also great.

A building is wonderful. I would have liked to visit this superb church many times during my France roaming. You selected the optic angle well. Tu as réussi à photographier cette église avec trois personnages dans le cadre et ceci sans éléments parasites venant perturber la composition,ce qui devient de plus en plus difficile.Dernièrement mais pas pour le plaisir j'ai eu l'occasion d'être devant une église en Bretagne et j'ai renoncé à déclenché,trop d'éléments disgracieux gênaient la compo.

Cette église est vraiment, je vais noter d'aller la voir lors d'un déplacement du côté de Poitiers
Sous ce ciel bleu, le contraste avec les pierres blanches est vraiment superbe.

quelle belle architecture!Je ne connaissais pas,et je suis ravie que tu nous la présentes!La photo a été prise sous une lumière plus qu'agréable,parceque si'j'en juge par la taille des ombres,ce n'est pas l'heure la plus favorable ,mais malgré cela,les détails ressortent bien,et les couleurs sont magnifiques!J'adore l'association du bleu et du gris,c'est doux et lumineux à la fois!C'est très beau,j'aime beaucoup!

Joël, tes photos de cette collégiale sont d'une très grande qualité. J'aime que les abords immédiats soient exempts de voitures. La lumière est (n'ayons pas peur des mots !) divine. Quant à l'architecture romane je la trouve superbe.

Un bon POV large et de 3/4 sur cette étonnante église. La lumière est bien maîtrisée avec de bons détails, a l'ombre comme au soleil. Bien net et couleurs a l'aspect naturel..

Magnifique! La lumière et les couleurs que tu nous transmets ici sont très belles. C'est très bien maîtrisé, la façade à l'ombre, la latérale au soleil... et il n'y a aucun excès, tout est bien. Bravo!
Quand tu dis 2 et 4 images pour les WS, c'est des assemblages que tu as fait sur ces images-là? Encore une fois BRAVO!

Très belle luminosité ici pour mettre en valeur cette superbe église et tous les détails de sa riche architecture. J'ai eu l'occasion de voir de près cette église, pas l'intérieur malheureusement. J'avoue avoir un petit coup de coeur pour ton WS à deux images qui donne une vue bien appréciable et intéressante de l'édifice. Beau travail comme d'habitude, merci Joël.
