In Chinese and Japanese a "sun"
(which looks like 8 on a digital clock)
and a "tree" (an upside-down V attached with its summit to the center of an upright cross)
together form the hieroglyph "East"
which I tried to represent above by means of pseudographics.
As for your picture: great!
