Photographer’s Note

Reflections in one of the four doors of Les Halles in Niort, Deux-Sèvres.

The existing market is the third covered market in Niort. The medieval market halls in Niort were considered to be the largest in the kingdom.

The current building was constructed in 1869 by Durand in the Baltard style and comprises a mix of wrought iron, steel and glass. It consists of a tall central nave and two lower side aisles that open on to the Place du Donjon and Rue Brisson, Considered a fine example of early modern architecture the whole of the market site is listed in the supplemental inventory of historic monuments.
