''The city is located 50 km south-east of Poitiers and 90 km northwest of Limoges. The territory is watered by the river Gartempe.
City Montmorillon gave its name to the montmorillonite, a component of certain varieties of clay. This substance is used against gastroenteritis.
In the Middle Ages, Montmorillon had a castle. He stood atop a cliff near the Notre-Dame it remains no trace today.

The foundation of Montmorillon by Pierre du Marché, member of oldest secular Poitou brotherhood , obtains confirmation episcopal and pontifical in 1107 at the Council of Reims. It is on this ground that the Hotel Dieu of the city then develops. The property is fortified during the Hundred Years War.

Ruined by the wars of religion, the Hôtel Dieu is raised by the Augustinian Order reformed, which assume its mission and charity medical care until the Revolution.

Under the Ancien Régime, the city was the seat of a royal seneschal.

The introduction of new taxes sometimes caused inter-class solidarity: thus, in 1707, when the establishment of new aid on the wine, the mayor himself causes resistance and insurrection. It is held responsible for the riot that followed.

Like the rest of France, Montmorillon welcomes the progress of the French Revolution. it planted the tree of liberty, symbol of the Revolution and became the rallying point of all the festivals and major events révolutionnaires. Chief town of the district of Montmorillon from 1790, and sub-prefecture from the Consulate, Montmorillon also maintains a district court since then.''

HI Alessandro,
When I saw the name of the city in the title I thought the mineral montmorillonite must have been named after it but it is just the opposite as you explain in your note. So will have to find out where the name came from. Very beautiful and tranquil image in excellent quality. A pleasure to view.
