Church Saint-Pierre XIIème Century

This church was built with the site of an oratory mentioned into 950 in the cartulaire of the rich and powerful abbey of Saint-Maixent, (Saint-Maixent-l'Ecole). As in the other churches of the Romanesque triad of Melle, Saint-Savinien and Saint-Hilaire, the flood of the pélerins of Saint-Jacques passed there. After being damaged during wars of religion and being closed down with the Revolution, Mérimée made restore since 1855.

Melle organized Biennial international contemporary art of Melle 2007, for which Saint-Pierre accomodated "Habibti" (Ma chérie),(My darling), skeleton out of blown glass, of Adel Abdessemed.
