Day is ending on harbour. On The "Vieux Port" of la Rochelle.

The "Saint-Nicolas" and "La Chaîne" towers.
"Small part of Francofolies.

At the end of the day starts the night of french madnesses, the “Francofolies”, festival from 10 to 14 July, 2009.
Les Francofolies de la Rochelle is an annual music festival founded in 1985 in La Rochelle in France, as an initiative of Jean-Louis Foulquier.
Jean-Louis Foulquier, born in La Rochelle in 1943, is a radio personality , and french actor.

Francopholies.

The "Vieux Port", old harbour, of La Rochelle.
It was from XIIe to XVe centuries the 1st harbour of the Atlantic ocean.
In XVIIe and XVIIIe centuries, it ensured half of the traffic towards the french colonies of North America.

The entry of the "Vieux Port" was defended on the left by the Chaîne Tower du XIVe century, and on right by the Saint-Nicolas Tower of XIIIe and XVe centuries.

Before arriving at the entry of the old harbour, one crosses on the left the Tour de la Lanterne of XVe siècle.

The village of fishermen of Xe century, is in XIIe century an important port, frees from the feudal supervisions, and managed by the first mayor of France.
The trade of salt and the wine, leads the city to its apogee in XIIIe century.
The Reform, Protestantism, finds a reception favorable with La Rochelle in XVIe century.
On April 30, 1628, it is the rendering after 13 months of siege carried out by the catholics Louis XIII and Richelieu. The city loses its mayor and all his privileges.
XVIIe century at the XVIIIe century, it is the re-establishment, by the trade with the French possessions of America, the Antilles and Canada, and the trade of the slaves.
In end of the XIXe century, the construction of the contiguous port of Pallice, will leave La Rochelle a stagnation created by the french Revolution and imperials conflicts.
The port of la Pallice which sheltered an underwater base during the second world war, was in the center of an enemy part of resistance until the end of the war, and the city of the La Rochelle was the last released French city, on May 8, 1945.

La Rochelle is a french commune, located in the department of the Charente-Maritime of the Poitou-Charentes area, populated of 80055 Rochelais in 2004, distributed out of 32 km², that is to say 2501 hab./km².

Thanks to the Gulf Stream, the anticyclone of the Azores, and the thermal inertia of the ocean, the average sunning of La Rochelle is close to that of Perpignan, and is best of Atlantique coast with 2250 hours of annual sunning.
Soft winters, and moderate pluviometry supports the development of plants and Mediterranean trees, like the holm oak.

The interesting night sky creates a very pleasing mood in this fine composition. I like the reflections of the yachts in the rippling waters of the harbour. An image to linger over, very well done.

this is the place well worth visiting! Maybe one day I will.....
Very interesting information and photos to which you provided the links. All my knowledge about La Rochelle is firmly associated/connected with Louis XIII and Richelieu - and A.Dumas's novels! :))
Excellent composition, I like the colors and light management: it makes the view very beautiful and filled with a special evening mood which is so difficult to capture.
In a way, these boats standing so close to each other, and their reflection in the water remind me of similar sights in Stockholm...

Bonjour Joël,

Les réflexions sur l'eau sont des atouts à la composition. Les mats des voiliers ont un effet graphique qui vont bien avec les tours. Le ciel nuageux accentue le contraste entre les couleurs. Bonne journée.

Les mats des bateaux et leurs reflets dans la mer donnent une très bel effet graphique. J'aime aussi beaucoup l'hamonie des tons doux grâce au filtre naturel provoqué par ce ciel gris que tu as pu bien capter. Très beau.

la chorelle est une merveilleuse vielle, j'a ai passsé sous la pluie, mercei de me faire découvrier et au Te cette fantastique image, avec un ciel génail, moutonneux, ces reflets des mâtes, cette ambiance de bord de mer, grandisoe iamge.

Une très belle image du port de La Rochelle, une grande harmonie de couleur entre les gris des nuebes et la mer qui paraît d'un argent, avec ses reflets excellents, les torreones médiévaux entre les mâts des bateaux sont un grand POV.

Tes photos du jour sont superbes. J'aime cette lumière qui filtre à travers les nuages. Le premier plan reflète le ciel et ses gris colorés. Les bateaux et leurs mâts laissent voir les tours historiques. Une photo très plaisante !

I do so enjoy a photo such as this, Joel. The lighting of the late hour is pleasing, and the symmetry of the sails in the water is especially pleasing. Good, sharp detail here and an engaging canvas of clouds for a backdrop.

Salut Joel,
Le ciel est un peu gris mais l'ensemble est très lumineux avec ces reflets en premier plan, la tonalité argentée est intéressante, on pourrait faire aussi un cadrage avec moins de ciel pour valoriser encore plus les reflets.
