Few words about the water joust...

The joust is a game where two men, encamped on two boat crossing, try to knock down each other in water with a wooden spear. Man location can be in front or back of the boat (as on the shot). Spears can measure 2 to 7 meters (6,5 to 23ft) long according to the regions. They are equipped to their end with iron crampons to hang the plastron wore by the two players. Music accompany the tournament, and approve the result, by folk tunes with drums, tambourines, fife... according to the traditions.

The water joust being practiced since the highest antiquity. A Egyptian Bas-Relief dating from 2980 to 2475 before JC already represents the water joust. But we find the biggest number of documents on the joust since the 16° century. Today, The water joust is practiced in the whole France and in some foreign countries (England, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Germany) according to different traditions, on a river, a canal or the sea.
