A view of the Romanesque church of Saint Peter in the old part of Chauvigny.
Chauvigny is a commune lying in the central area of western France. It is located in the department of Vienne, in the of region Poitou-Charentes. Its inhabitants, of which there were 6754 at the 2010 census, are called Chauvinois.
The town owes much of its fame to its important medieval heritage. The town is divided into two distinct parts: the upper part, which consists of the medieval city and historical centre; beneath this sits the more recently developed lower town and commercial district..

A great image of this magnificent, proud Romanesque church. The inclusion of the people sitting on the right adds a nice extra touch of humanity. The impact of the image might benefit slightly however by cropping the distractions on the left side: i.e exclude the two people at the table and the part of the structure at the left edge of the frame.
Thanks for recent critique of my image.

Elle est impressionnante cette église sous cet angle. On ressent bien la texture de la pierre d'un certain age déjà. La lumière est bien gérée malgré le léger contre jour.

striking shot of this amazing old church. It looks so beautiful and your POV and execution does its majesty full justice. Captivating image.

Can I just say a big thank you to all who were concerned about us southern Englanders during the recent coming of St Jude (the storm). Despite being a bit scary with the wind howling around the house sounding like an approaching train; thankfully I survived as did the huge tree that sits outside my property. B.

The POV is nice and comfortable - affording a very proportionate full view of the medieval structure. I guess the clock on the second rung of the bell tower was a much later addition. The material is brown sand stone I suppose ? With the passage of time and pollution, sandstone takes on a variety of interesting colours. Its the same here, and the colours of the walls show the age and the times that this structure has been through. In fact the bell tower seems to be a much later addition, with smaller pieces of bricks being used.
Its a very well composed photograph.
Thanks for sharing, Stephen.

Belle capture de cette vieille église avec ses toits arrondis et son clocher carré à plusieurs étages. Le point de vue permet de bien voir l'ensemble du bâtiment. Bien fait. Salutations.

This place is superb and you composed your image well! Nice angle looking to the corner of the majestic church

Stephen, the POV you chose really emphasizes the bulk and majesty of the building. Great sharpness against an interesting but bright sky. I might have chosen to crop a bit more on the left - the sliver of building at the far left is quite distracting. But overall this is a lovely shot, showing us a lot of the architecture of the church. Thanks.

what a lovely example, the architecture of the Church is so attractive and you have shown it from a good view point, the details are quite outstanding with the inclusion of just a few people to give scale without encroaching onto the scene.

Ciao e buona serata

That church does look old, very old! A beautiful design though, all those side chapels bulging out from the main building create a very interesting design, and your choice of POV allows us to appreciate its height, depth and scale. The people inside the shot sitting with the dog allow me to visualize the size of this place too, without them I would have thought this to be a lot smaller.
Cheers as always

The ancient looking church is similar in style to an old Greek orthodox or even a Georgian / Armenian styled church from the 10 century. Except for the rectangular tower at the back. Good sharpness and well framed and composed with breathing space right around. The fg row of stone posts adds dynamism and perspective. Tfs!

this is so huge! or at least it looks this way, it looks like it needs to go on a diet or something! haha
