Chauvigny is a commune lying in the central area of western France. It is located in the department of Vienne, in the of region Poitou-Charentes. Its inhabitants, of which there were 6754 at the 2010 census, are called Chauvinois.
Chauvigny owes much of its fame to its important medieval heritage. The town is divided into two distinct parts: the upper part, which consists of the medieval city and historical centre; beneath this sits the more recently developed lower town and commercial district..
The historical centre is perched on a rocky promontory commanding the valleys of Vienna and Talbat. It boasts no less than five castles within a fortified complex, a rarity in Europe. At the heart of the historical centre is the church of Saint-Pierre (Saint Peter), which dates from the 12th century. It features sculptures of the Poitiers school, and an unusual painted interior.
The church of Notre-Dame in the lower town dates from the 11th century though it was extensively restored in the 19th century. It became the parish church in 1823 following a municipal decision. The lower town also contains the Town Hall, which was built at the end of the 19th century on the ruins of the old church of Saint-Léger.

France has so much medieval heritage and this is such a fine example of how well it has survived and also how fascinating it looks in this setting. What I like here is the lack of 21st century influences like TV aerials, wires etc. A delightful POV and gloriously executed shot. Superb!
Have a great weekend - Brian.

This looks to be a really beautiful place Stephen, the old medieval town has some distinctive architecture and I love the fact that there is such a lot of greenery to offset the old stone walls. The warm light here is pleasing and with the soft blue sky the town is shown to great advantage. The WS is excellent with such fine detail. Have a lovely weekend. Rosemary

At first glance, this reminded me of San Gimignano with these old towers poking up into the sky in such a rural setting. A beautiful view of this town, with the castle, church tower and so many other buildings to catch the eye, all surrounded by beautiful blue sky and green trees. A really perfect vantage point to show this beautiful place.
All the best

C'est le plaisir de parcourir les petites routes françaises et de découvrir après une courbe une aussi belle petite ville dressée sur une colline toute verte. Le point de vue est superbe.

Beautiful combined view over the one-thousand years old town, Stephen, seems as "rising" from within the green trees and river afoot to its hill's.
The old towers and church on the skyline well seen.
Daylight was favorable and managed superb clear view over town.

nice scene here. The castle in middle is beautiful. I think the image is a bit over exposed but I enjoyed a lot the layers of colours a lot. Well done panorama. Tfs.
