Photographer's Note

This photo is part of my theme: The 24, dedicated to the 24 hours of Le Mans. In this series I want to show my love for this event by means of photos and notes. This is the final part V: Dunlop Curve.

The Spot
This is Dunlop Curve on Le Mans, in front of the main crowd stands. This is a excellent spot to watch the race. You have an overview over the pitboxes and the straight on the right. At the end of the pit area is a giant jumbotron so that you can see the tv footage of the race with on-board cameras, interviews, etc. In front of you is Dunlop Curve, what you see here.

Braking
The GTs lift entering the 1st corner and brake before going thru the 2nd. The LMPs tap the brake entering 1st and slam it hard before entering the 2nd. This is a populair place for overtaking because its relatively safe. If an LMP wants to overtake a GT, it will take the 1st curve wide and brake a little later on the second, to pass on the inside.

Overtaking
The coolest thing is when a LMP wants to overtake another LMP with a big heart. Side-by-side in the 1st corner, you see the brake lights on for just a split second. Then braking and loud downshifting with lots of flames and sparks out of the rear. There is nano second difference between the time they hit the brakes, you have to watch their brake lights very carefuly. The pilot on the inside at the 2nd turn has the biggest cahunga's and wins 9/10. Then accelerating underneath the Dunlop tire. Very entertaining with big crowds at night.

Love = Energy
This is my last post about the 24h Le Mans. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing about it. I *LOVE* Le Mans. More next year, no doubt. This race gave me energy for weeks to come.
