Photographer’s Note

View on the Saint-Nazaire Old Port lighthouse at sunset, with Saint-Nazaire bridge in the background which links to the south bank of river Loire. Saint-Nazaire is situated on north bank of the river Loire estuary and is the second biggest town of Loire-Atlantique department. As its breton cousins Brest or Lorient, Saint-Nazaire was nearly totally destroyed by allied bombings during World War II. The town still has traces from these dark ages and so it is now a beautiful town. But it is a pleasant place anyway : it is close to the sea, close to famous seaside resorts (La Baule, Pornichet, Le Croisic, ..), close to the famous salt marshes of Guérande and marshes of Brière, a lot of places to have very nice walks ! It is also in Saint-Nazaire, in the Atlantic shipyards, that the famous liner Queen Mary 2 was built a few years ago.
