Photographer’s Note
Conceived and carried out by the Architecture-Studio agency, Le Quai incorporates space for stages, for creation, for reception, for training and for offices within a main floor surface area of 16,000 m2 and on several other floors (25,000 m2 all told):
- le Théâtre 900, with a removable orchestra pit,
- le Théâtre 400, completely modifiable,
- two large rehearsal rooms of 450 m2 (each room can accommodate 99 people),
- le Forum, a vast windowed area, a cross between a covered street and an open theatre,
- three studios for the CNDC school,
- an information and ticket booth area,
- a parking-lot of 180 places,
- a bar, and
- a panoramic terrace which houses the Rouge Tendance restaurant.
The building’s architecture initiates a dialogue between the city and the show: it facilitates access to performances and highlights cultural diversity. The Forum offers a new approach to welcoming different audiences and to meeting all the technical needs of contemporary performances. Through its sound design and choice of raw materials (glass, steel, concrete), Architecture-Studio surprises spectators who enter the building: behind a simple geometric envelope, the transparency of the Forum’s façade reveals an interior minerality that gives way little by little to numerous vibrant colours.
