Photographer’s Note

Menez Hom is the tallest hill in Brittany - I think it reaches to about 330m. This picture was taken in September, on an OM-10. I think the lense on the camera at the time was a Makinon 30-105, and it was probably zoomed to the max. I can't remember for sure, but the shutter speed was probably 1/1000, based on a lightmeter recommendation of 1/500. There was a sunlight filter on the lense, and given the time of day, the aperture was probably set to 5.6. The picture was taken facing more or less due west at around 8pm one evening, possibly earlier.

I stayed in the nearby village for three or four days during a driving holiday in Finistere in 2003 - I found it reasonably central for all the places I wanted to go. The village was not especially big, and barely merited the name "village", maybe hamlet might be better. It consisted of a church and a few houses, including the chambre d'hote I stayed in

The church in Ste Marie du Menez Hom has a plaque on one of the walls commemorating the fact that a number of British airmen were hidden there during the second world war.
