The Comtesse (Countess) Beach (190 m long)

Close to the Port d'Armor and the Ile de la Comtesse, the Comtesse Beach faces east and is a nice family beach for swimming and relaxation.
It gets its name from the Comtesse (Countess) des Thuilais, an important lady who owned the island at the end of the 18th century.
The beach is watched over by lifeguards who keep in permanent contact with the Sémaphore (which in turn keeps watch over sea conditions). So you can safely go swimming, let your small children use the paddling pool and use the diving raft as well if you like. Beach huts are available (to rent them, ask at the Mairie (town hall))
For those who just want to relax, there is an unobstructed view of the port and all the shipping activities: you can sea fishing boats coming back to the port and sailing vessels and motor-launches at anchor in the Port d'Armor.
At low tide you can also go and explore the Ile de la Comtesse (it belongs to the town), but make sure to you get back to the mainland before the tide comes in!
This beach has one special feature: Its sand can, depending on the tides, become black; this is due to the presence of crystals of black ilmenite.
Access: via the Port d'Armor, where there is a large number of parking spaces, or from the Avenue de la Comtesse where the few parking spaces are often all taken, or, if you are on foot, using the Sentier des Douaniers (Customs Officers' Path).
A gentle slope or the steps will enable you to get onto the beach easily.
Informations of the tourist office of Saint-Quay Portrieux.

For a more general sight of the neighbourhoods I ask you to see this sight with 360°.

A good sunday with all.
