Photographer’s Note

Photo of a gaiteiro in Galicia bungalow in Interceltic Festival of Lorient. A gaiteiro is a musician who plays gaïta, a pipe you can find in celtic areas in north west of Spain : Asturias and Galicia.

Every year, in early august, people from Asturias and Galicia meet their friends from other celtic nations (Brittany, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Isle of Man and others) in Lorient, Brittany, for Interceltic Festival of Lorient. During 10 days, more than 700,000 people enjoy about celtic nations culture, mainly music and dance. The atmosphere is the most friendly you could imagine, people from all over the world meet each other, bands play music and dance everywhere to the middle of the night. Interceltic Festival of Lorient is the biggest celtic festival in the world, the biggest festival in France and the second in Europe (the first being Edinburgh Festival). I enjoy this great festival every year, and I invite everyone to go there and enjoy with people from all celtic nations ! Every year the festival focuses on a celtic nation. It was Scotland in 2007, Wales in 2008, it is Galicia in 2009. That's why I chosed this photo to introduce the festival to people unaware of it ;) Next year the festival will celebrate its 40 years and the invited nation will be ... Brittany !

As workshop, a photo of the whole band.
