Photographer’s Note

For the moment, this is going to be the last of my series: "Breton Traditional costumes".
This is is my mother's WEDDING COSTUME (1946). At the time, the fashion was coming to modern white dress, which my mum would have liked, but her own mother would hear nothing of it! Now, we are all pleased about it: her wedding photo is more original than most,and she was one of the last young ladies to have worn such a wedding costume.
Unlike the costume of Plougastel, this costume was shared by a number of villages: Loperhet, Dirinon, Daoulas, Logonna, L'Hôpital-Camfrout, Saint Urbain, Hanvec, all in the "canton" of Daoulas, which is an electoral district. It's situated in the ancient bishopric "Cornouaille" (KERNE IN BRETON) just on the border with "Leon", hence the name of the costume "KERNEWODEN".
Unfortunately, there isn't any remnant of the men's costumes, and there hasn't been any research or recreation either.
All the younger ladies in the family have worn it on certain festivals or only for the photo. Also, we have had a lot of young ladies from abroad staying with us, and they have all had their photos taken in it. This is a Swedish couple serving as models in May 2006.
I am adding some WS about different details of the costume and one of the REAL WEDDING in 1946.

L'homme a habillé son costume moderne avec ce chapeau.Il est accompagné de cette jolie fille habillée elle dans la tradition.Bravo pour ce travail sur les habits Bretons.

Tu fais une sorte de travail de sauvegarde du patrimoine breton. Ces costumes sont magnifiques et les modèles aussi, il faut bien le dire. Bon travail.

Ceci est un rendu historique et fort descriptif de coutumes ancestrales et, sourires en bonus, j'y vois l'époque de mes aïeux!
Le cadrage serré favorise l'attention sur les détails brodés de la robe.
Je ne peux m'empêcher de fredonner: ........Vive les Bretons, ils ont des chapeaux ronds.!!

Marie Louise, your series was really informative and, I think presented the costumes in a very realistic fashion. Your mother must have looked very sweet in this wedding dress. You have captured the detail very well I think. It's difficult to capture detail against white I think. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and a little bit of your customs.

Ils sont bıen mıgnons tous les deux, maıs en lısant la note on comprend mıeux le contexte et les photos que tu as mıses en WS ajoutent beaucoup d'ınteret - j'aıme bcp le faıt que tu y as ınclu la photo de marıage de tes parents, c'est une excellente ıdee !

Hola Marie Louise, interesante serie de trajes regionales, pienso que también es una forma de conocer el mundo que nos rodea viendo como vestían nuestros padres y abuelos. Solo hacerte una consideración respecto a los encuadres de cuerpo entero como este: Deberías cuidar de no cortar los pies a los protagonistas... también los zapatos pueden ser interesantes. :D
