Photographer’s Note
LANDERNEAU is situated on the picturesque river Elorn, up river from Brest, 10 Km away! The Elorn separates the former bishoprics, Cornouaille to the south, capital: Quimper; and Léon to the north, capital: St-Pol-de-Léon. So the town has like one leg in each; and there is the "quai de Cornouaille" and the "quai de Léon" each side of the river.
It is well-known for a number of features.
--" La lune de Landerneau " ( The moon of Landerneau ) was the emblem of the powerful family " De Rohan ", who couldn't keep the Sun as an emblem, because it was Louis XIV's emblem.
--There is also the famous saying: " Cela fera du bruit dans Landerneau " ( It will cause a stir in Landerneau.) It comes from a play by A Duval (1767-1842 ): A rich naval officer taken for dead, comes back to his home town, to the great disappointment of his heirs. Seeing him arrive, his servant exclaims: " Cela fera du bruit dans Landerneau."
The audience adopted the expression, which is still used nowadays in current French, every time an unexpected event happens; for instance, one can hear that an unexpected government decision will cause a stir in the "Landerneau politique".
--Then of course, there is the famous inhabited "Pont de Rohan", one of the 4 last inhabited bridges in Europe ( with the "Ponte Vecchio" Florence, "Pulteney Bridge" Bath England and "Krämerbrücke", the merchants'bridge Erfurt Germany. Lovech Bridge, Bulgaria, is covered by shops, because after the last fire, they didn't put any housing on it, only shops. )
The pont de Rohan is the limit between the tidal river to the west and the river upstream! If you compare it to Sterne's image"LE PONT DE ROHAN III" (see the group theme), you can really see that it's a tidal river, up to the locks under the bridge.

Très bonne composition de ce pont sur l'Elorn et de l'architecture locale sous ce joli ciel bleu,comme on dit dans le landerneau c'est un "ciel très caractéristique" de la Bretagne!!

Salut Marie Louise,
very lovely view with the typical facade, the bridge and the reflection. Not sure about the situation, but a bit more from the surrounding might raise the impression and add knowledge about that "bridge living". The POV with perspective and depth is well chosen and the facade of the restaurant is asking for another one in better light. It looks appealing.

Nice shot of this inhabited bridge! The reflection adds nice depth and balance to the shot. The lighting and colors are great with nice sharpness and detail. I think that a wider view would help us see that this is a bridge and what it connects.

Une belle réalisation sous ce très beau ciel breton, pour nous présenter le célèbre pont de Rohan, effectivement moins célèbre que Landerneau; Les reflets donne une touche d'une grande douceur.

Dommage d'avoir tant compressé la photo, car elle perd vraiment en qualité. Le fichier pèse 80Ko sur les 200 autorisé, ce qui laisse une bonne marge...

Hello Marie Louise, this is a beautiful photo because you have captured so many points of light. The white shutters and the reflection on the water, the small light on the left. It's really charming and the detail you've provided makes this a picture we can just step into. I love it. I'd like to look at some blue sky like this now but...nothing but clouds here I'm afraid.

J'ai bien aimé la note sur cette image de Landerneau, c'est un excellent rappel de l'usage du mot dans les expressiosn Françaises.
Il y a une belle lumière sur la photo et le coin est sympa, même si l'enduit de la petite maison est commun et mériterait un peu plus de grain et de couleur... C'est le problème du service technique et de l'architecte, pas du photographe :-))

Impressionnant bâtiment à l'architecture remarquable. Je ne savais pas qu'il n'existait plus que deux ponts habités en Europe! Superbe lumière et jolis reflets sur la surface de l'eau. On aimerait presque en avoir un peu plus (en cadrant un peu plus bas avec un peu de recul), mais ce n'était peut-être pas possible!

Je crois que tu as exagéré avec la compression: la netteté pourrait être mieux.

Bonjour, mon amie Marie-Louise,
Cela va faire du bruit dans Landerneau, expression que l'on trouve qu'à la fin du XVIIIe siècle, un auteur nommé Alexandre Duval (pas Dumas !) a écrit et fait jouer une pièce en un acte, intitulée "Les Héritiers".
Dans cette comédie, un officier de marine donné pour mort, réapparaît brutalement dans sa ville d'origine, Landerneau, au grand dam des héritiers déjà en train de se disputer la succession.
Un valet apprenant la nouvelle du retour de l'officier dit alors : "Oh le bon tour ! Je ne dirai rien, mais cela fera du bruit dans Landerneau !"
Un petit clin d'oeil à la petite histoire.
Merci, Marie-Louise, pour ces très belles photographies de Landerneau qui auraient pu faire l'objet de publications indépendantes.

Cette architecture est superbe. J'aime particulièrement les reflets. La Bretagne est très riche en vestiges du passé. Belle lumière pour mettre en valeur la pierre de granit et l'ardoise locales.

Thank you for sharing these unique places. I can see the bridge here, but it is hard to determine how large the gap (if there is one) is between it and the building behind. There is a nice effect of the light shining through the bridge leaving gentle shadows on the building behind seen most so in closed white windows
