Photographer's Note
The Vauban Tower at Camaret has just been added to the UNESCO World Heritage together with 11 other Vauban fortifications.
Vauban was Louis XIV's military architect, and he built 151 fortifications around France, which had an influence on military architecture in Europe, America, Turkey and even as far as Viet-Nam and Japan.
This polygonal tower at Camaret on the Atlantic was built from 1693 to 1696 and equipped with a defensive ditch, a drawbridge and outer walls. Its aim was of course to defend this part of the coast from attacks coming from the sea.
In WS, I'll add the other 11 Vauban fortifications which were added to the World Heritage.
This posting may contrast with my previous one which was about Peace in the World, not about war heritage. Well, let's hope that these buildings will just remain as a trace of our violent history which we must know in order not to repeat it!
NB. The UNESCO World Heritage now counts 878 sites over 145 countries.
As Francisco (Xuaxo) classed the photo in his group theme "Flags, bandeiras, drapeaux", it made me ask myself WHAT THE FLAG FLYING OVER THE FORTRESS WAS.
Knowing Loic_bzh is thee lover of Crozon Peninsula, I asked him if he could help; and he set on his search straight away. If you are interested, look at the WS he has added to the post: The information is very thorough. Thank you Loic!
I have never yet been left without an answer when I launched a search on TE! It's great!

Hello MarieLouise,
Interesting story about the architect Vauban and his towers. Nice composition of the tower with the subsidiary building and bush on the left making a diagonal line. I especially like the orange color of the buildings. Good sharpness & clarity too. Best Wishes. Latiff.
PS: Your WS "St Martin de Re" could be good as a separate main post which will allow more viewings.

Salut Marie-Louise,

Hi MarieLouise,
This looks almost like a regular building, not a military one. The orange color is most interesting. Unfortunately war is almost as old as the history of mankind. There always seems to be war somewhere in the world, sometimes close to home, sometimes far away. But the same is also true for peace. And hopefully periods of peace will reign much longer than times of war.
Best regards,
Lamberto

Bonsoir Marie-Louise,

MarieLouise, this looks like something out of a fairy tale book. The colors and shape are beautiful and almost surreal. You have done a nice job of working without direct light to make a fine photograph.

Marie-Louise bonjour.

Bon travail.

Great sharp details to this beautiful orange and grey fortress standing out so well against the silver blue sky and contrast lush greenery. Wonderful informative note about this contrast to peace.

Bonjour Marie Louise

Hello Marie Louise,
It is always interesting to see architecture that I don't immediately understand the purpose of, hehehe!
But this is of course some kind of defence structure, I can see from the narrow slots in the wall...
A well composed presentation with good details!

Hi Marie Louise. A nice close up of the beautiful tower. The details are very good and the bad weather has enhanced the colors. Nice detail of the waving flag too. Great and BIG collection of workshops :) Très bien. Amitiès.

Good morning Marie Louise,
nice the view as the presentation of the well maintenance Vauban golden tower at Camaret.I like the clarity of the image as the good clarity of it.Perhaps a bit more of saturation and the image would was more effective.
Have a good weekend,Danos
