Photographer's Note

The center of the old town of Pau in Béarn, stands the castle of Pau, famous for the birthplace of the King of France and Navarre, Henry IV. This castle now bears the marks of this imposing presence: the various representations of the 'good king Henri adorn the walls on all sides.

But the castle, much older in that the association of Navarra and French kingdoms, carries within it the tormented brands in modern history, under the benevolent figure of 'green gallant. It was a historical monument in 1840.
