Photographer's Note

Late afternoon on the pond. Between Pinasse and pleasure craft.
The pinnace is a typical boat of the Arcachon Basin and coastal Gascon: long, narrow front very tough, it is traditionally pinewood in Landes and flat bottom. With the development of techniques and uses, its sides widened to accommodate an engine, and composite materials sometimes replace pine. Under sail or motor, the pinnace now finds great popularity; it is no longer used for fishing or oyster farming, but for walking, sailing and regattas.
