Photographer’s Note
Civrac-de-Blaye is a rural commune in Haute-Gironde. Its population of around 750 is spread over a number of small hamlets as well as the small village that gives the commune its name. Its economy revolves around wine making, mixed farming, animal breeding and forestry.
The church of Saint Vivien has a most remarkable roof as can be seen here. Constructed during the Renaissance period, its design and method of putting together are reminders of the techniques used at the time by the shipwrights. It is composed of seven trusses each finely carved and decorated and each one different. It is worth noting the particular form of the stays, which are carved in an arc to form with the upper rafters an almost perfect semicircle.
Taken hand-held with the ISO uprated to 800. Apologies in advance for any lack of sharpness.

Hi Stephen,
"Raise high the roof beam, carpenters" could be an alternative title for this very special picture. A very fine observation!

Hello Stephen,
good presentation of original handicraft with a strong perspective and pleasant depth. You got also a good effect visible by scrolling with the mouse wheel up and down, it looks as the roof is going up and down for me. The texture and construction is good to see.

Bonjour Stephen,
