Photographer’s Note

The Longest Day a Saving Private Ryan).

if younger generations grew up with Vietnam movies, I grew up with WW II films. one of the most filmed moments of WW II is surely D-Day. yet no celluloid masterpiece can even get close to making us feel the horror and fear that hundreds of thousands of young men must have felt that day, most of them dragged into a war so far away from home, in places they probably could not have located on the map.
It's my impression that contemporary society is losing its historical memory - one of the most precious assets in a democracy.
I don't think one should live regretting "the good old times" but I strongly believe that a society that forgets or denies its roots and its past will surely have problems in the present and won't be able to create acceptable living conditions for future generations.
