Photographer’s Note

Weather conditions in the Perigord and Quercy are particularly favorable for growing tobacco.
The cooperative Perigord Tobacco is the first French producer with 3,000 tonnes per year.
Traditional varieties, brown or light, have the same production cycle : planting seeds are made in March. The dubbing, the hoeing and beheading took place from spring to summer. Then comes in early autumn, the harvest which is traditionally made rod by rod.
Here, the latest step : the drying in a ventilated shed a typical construction of tobacco-growing regions.
Once sorted, the leaves are channeled to the cooperative.

This rigorous plant, imported from South America in the sixteenth century, was originally used for its medicinal properties... We can say that its first usefulness is forgot since a long time.

bonsoir voisine du soir!
à fumer berk berk à mon goût... mais à humer simplement c'est plus qu'un délice...
les couleurs chaudes de la photos vont bien avec le noir profond des ombres et j'aime vraiment;
mais (tj un mais...) j'aurais préféré ou un cadrage encore plus serré ou plus de recul pour avoir aussi le bâtiment (si toutefois celui ci est traditionnel et non pas un hangar métallique) et aussi avec l'attache des tiges? (j'en demande bien beaucoup....)

Bonsoir Karine,

Il fallait penser à prendre ce tabac en train de sécher : tu as eu raison.
Cela donne une photo surprenante, bien coloriée et avec un graphisme intéressant.

Hi Karine,
I don't know what I expected tobacco leaves to look like, but the first time I saw it I was a little surprised. Perhaps because it's always left to dry brown in these wooden barns.
The photo has lovely light and shadows, and I like your simple but effective composition.

Un sujet original et pratiquement un graphisme avec ce tabac séchant.Un très bon rendu de couleur avec la juste mesure entre ombre et lumière.

Bonsoir Karine,
Une image est rare de voir ici. Fait de nombreuses années qu'il n'avait pas voir un séchoir à tabac à priser. Excellent capture avec de très bons détails et de couleurs.
