Photographer’s Note

To mark my 400th upload showing France, I have chosen one of the highlights of my may trip to the Perigord region, the Beynac castle.

I'll show several views from this place, this first one presents its elevated position on a Dordogne river curve above the village. From that angle it does not look very impressive apart from its position on top of the cliff, but it is really a fine piece of medieval defense structure and had to be in this region much disputed between France and England. Because of its thick walls it was also chosen to turn some scenes of the hilarious movie "Les Visiteurs II" although to cut costs most scenes were shot in Romania, a country that also does not lack nice castles.
