Au sommet des collines,
des arbres défient le ciel.
Ils s'accrochent à la pente pour résister au vent.
Ils dominent les nuages.
Ils résistent aux orages.
Ils regardent la vallée pleins de fierté.

Le vieux chêne de Venon est une institution.
On le voit de loin, solitaire dans son pré.
On rêve de l'approcher.
On en fait même un thême sur TE.

They look at the valley full with pride.

The ancient oak of Venon is an institution.
It by far is seen, recluse in his field.
One dreams to approach it.
One makes even a theme of it on TE.

une très belle compo pour mettre en valeur cette "institution". Ce vieux chêne est gâté par de telles photos. Une vraie star. un très beau côté graphique se dégage de cette photo

The composition is simple and lovely. I like how the tree's branches are silhouetted in the sky. The clouds that are under the tree on the left are also very interesting, this tree really does "defy the sky".

Hi Bertrand, this is a fascinating composition. It gives a photo that demands attention. Glancing at the thumbnail I thought this was a "tilting" shot but closer inspection proves this not to be the case. It's the clouds that show us which way is up.

A really beautiful photo. The perspective and setting are so unusual that they attract the eye right away, then the gorgeous simplicity keep the viewer's attention.

It's amazing that with the hill the way it is, both tilted and rounded, it almost seems we can see the curvature of the Earth beneath this tree. It reminds me of an illustration I seem to remember from Le Petit Prince (I haven't read it since I was ten or so) with a baobab tree clinging to the curved side of a small planet.

Well seen, and very nice notes.

Lovely simple and dramatic composition, Bertrand. That tree looks to be ready to slide down that steep slope - but it must have been growing there for many many years.
Nice diagonals with the grass and sky. Lovely poetic note.

Quel succes ce tri-centenaire rencontre sur TE et combien d'illustres TEiens seront allés le celebrer comme ils se devaient !!
j'ai eu une info prècieuse par une copine habitant à proximité et le surveillant du coin de l'oeil à ma demande: Depuis 2, 3 jours, il y a un troupeau de vaches à son pied, mais tu n'en parles à personne, et surtout pas à jean Louis ou à Dédé !!!
faut que j'y monte un de ces midis.
plus serieusement, je ne peut être que fan.

Hello Bertrand,
et oui, je suis d'accord pour dire que le tilt apporté à la composation la dynamise un peu. Un bien bel arbre ququel tu rends un hommage mérité pour les tonnes d'oxygène qu'il nous a fournies.
Un rien de surexpositions dans les nuages à gauche, mais c'est vraiment pas grave.
Une manière bien à toi de nous présenter cette scène.

Il suffit des fois de peu de chose pour sortir une jolie photo tout en poésie.
La grande inclinaison de la pente en diagonale, l'excellent cadrage, les couleurs, la sensation de tranquilité...c'est bien fait.Joli

Hi Bertrand, A well seen and a well captured picture. An interesting clear straight line along the slope. Good contrast and nicely composed image.
For argument sake, I have rotated the picture to straight out the ground, which provides a different feeling :D Fortunately, there is no right or wrong here.

tu l'as enfin trouvé ce superbe vieux chêne ! belle diagonale et compo sympa avec ces nuages et ces quelques pissenlits.
par contre, la lumière était bien difficile pour le 350D qui a un peu cramé les nuages.
Faudra que j'y retourne la semaine prochaine un midi. si des fois tu es dispo, on peut se faire un virée avec Alain (mais sans Seb qui risquerait de nous faire payer l'accès ;)

une série sur les arbres ... après le Tanzanien voilà celui qui vient d'être encore plus célèbre par les photos sur TE. C'est vrai qu'il est vraiment photogénique sous tous les angles, celui de ta prise est bien vu, la pente paraît encore plus impressionnante, le fond de ciel avec ces nuages complète bien ta photo.

I was convinced it was a deliberate tilt until I read your note. It's amazing how the tree can cling on to such a steep slope. Good compositional choice to have the triangle of green in the foreground.

Cher Bertrand bonsoir - splendide ce vieil arbre et ce tilt qui le rajeunit - c'est bizarre, ma mémoire nivaquine doit flancher car je ne connais pas Venon, ni ce chêne -
cette compo toute en diagonale est vraiment extra et très graphique (quel beau poster dans un salon)
