Photographer’s Note

Yesterday, the statue of the virgin of the Fourvière Basilica was bathed in a beautiful light. I couldn't miss it...
This gold-plated eighteen feet and six ton statue is made of bronze. And it's been watching over Lyon for more than 150 years now.
The installation of the statue on the tower of the Basilica, on the 8th of December 1852, is the starting point of Lyon illuminations, which became the Festival of Lights.

C'est magnifique.
Le titre ne pouvait être autre devant une lumière si magique.
J'aime beaucoup ton cadrage original sur la basilique et comment tu as si bien inscrit les clochers dans un parfait format vertical.
Les reflets dorés sur fond de ciel orageux sont merveilleux.
D'une élégance très pure, bravo.

Un très beau ciel presque vert pour mettre en valeur l'or de la statue et des détails architecturaux.
Une superbe lumière d'avant orage que tu as capté.
Dans ce cas, il faut agir vite en effet car le projecteur peut s'éteindre aussi vite qu'il s'est allumé!
Un cadrage particulièrement réussi.

i like the combination of the statue and tower.. you had looked them from a nice angle.. the light is touching them softly and creating a nice view..

effectivement, la lumière est superbe et permet d'accorder parfaitement le doré de la statue avec le bleu/vert du ciel.
Je trouve le cadrage particulièrement bien choisi.
Peut-être juste un peu penché vers la droite, mais c'est pas trop gênant.

Sharp and detailed, but it's the luxurious color palette which stands out here; not just the golds, but the rich turquoise sky. You couldn't miss it? You didn't!! :)

Excellent timing pour avoir capté cette superbe lumière. Les contrastes presque violents sont très accrocheurs, l'ambiance est bien dramatique, et le cadrage qui isole les pointes des édifices renforce encore cette intensité. On dirait que la Vierge réclame une couronne plus grande pour sa tête!!!

The light is indeed special as it bathes the two different towers and statue in golden glow. I like the strange turquoisy blue of the sky too.

Salut Philippe,

Des couleurs spectaculaires et une ambiance hallucinante, obtenues grâce à une lumière chaude et pratiquement horizontale. Les contrastes méritent une mention spéciale!...

La composition est à la hauteur avec une mise en valeur des deux tours, uniques chacune à leur façon, mais se complétant à merveille, notamment avec les surfaces qui alternent entre les tons sombres et ceux plus clairs.
