Photographer’s Note
Built by the authorities of Turin between 1819 and 1834 against the possible attacks of France, the "barrière de l'esseillon" is including 5 fortifications in Aussois and Avrieux in the french Alps. The fortifications are named according the first names of royal house of Savoie family members. The installations, taking place in the Haute-Maurienne valley and typical of a Montalembert architecture have never been used excepted for garrison parking and royal jails.
