Photographer’s Note

One of the most photographed French buildings, the "Palais de l'Isle" is the landmark of Annecy's old city. Due to its triangular shape it looks like a ship cruising in the river "Thiou". It was built in the XII th century and first served as a residence for the governer of Annecy, it later became an administrative hall and even a prison.
It successfully managed to escape demolition at the end of the XIX th century thanks to its classification as a Historical Monument.

At night this old city area is now a popular place for a stroll along the canal or a dinner in one of the numerous restaurants, as you can see here on the left.
