Photographer’s Note
One of the most photographed French buildings, the "Palais de l'Isle" is the landmark of Annecy's old city. Due to its triangular shape it looks like a ship cruising in the river "Thiou". It was built in the XII th century and first served as a residence for the governer of Annecy, it later became an administrative hall and even a prison.
It successfully managed to escape demolition at the end of the XIX th century thanks to its classification as a Historical Monument.
At night this old city area is now a popular place for a stroll along the canal or a dinner in one of the numerous restaurants, as you can see here on the left.

bonjou jean-yves, no surprise why this is one of the most often photographed buildings in france; its location, its surroundings, and the beauty of the building itself make it a great photo opportunity;
lovely early evening shot, maybe slightly overexposed? but its my taste only (me being a great fun of underexposure);
have a nice day, jerzy

Hello Jean Yves,

Bel endroit.

Hi Jean-Yves
What a beautiful night scene - the colour of the sky is a perfect backdrop to the lovely colours in the foreground. The reflection in the water gives a silken quality to the foreground. I think you've got a good balance of exposure considering the vast variation of light - well captured.
Regards, Sarah

I like the superb lighting & reflections. Excellent contrast & sharpness. C'est magnifique! The late evening navy blue sky is just the right tone, to separate the roof from the sky. Tres bon!

Salut Jean Yves

Again a nice night scene from Annecy, and yes easy to understand how this would be a very popular photo motive. Good choice to show it at dusk, benefitting from the very special light setting and the scenic surroundings that are well presented in this framing. Good job, Jean-Yves.

Bonjour Jean Yves,

Salut JY
Another lovely night scene from this town. I like the quality of the water and the reflections. The lights are a bit bright and dominating - I would have gone for a smaller exposure, though these scenes are always a bit tricky to balance lights and darks.
Bonne semaine, Susanna

Magnifique! Well photographed or not, this is a spectacular rendering of the Palais de l'Isle. Your exposure is perfect and the structure positively glows. The reflections are superb, and the surrounding buildings seem to form an arc so as to provide perfect balance for the scene. Just a great shot.

all the tourists on the bridge lined up taking the same shot. I'm gald you've chosen something different.
The long expsure is good although I think you should maybe have shut down an F stop more... but still briliant picture.
Just one question, how does one get into the Palais, with a canoe??
