Photographer’s Note
A sublime medieval village perched on a rocky outcrop a few kms from the town of Vence. The village (which is protected) has uninterrupted and spectacular views down to Cap d'Antibes. And in Feb/Mar when the sea haze has disappeared you can see Corsica . Inevitably the Summer attracts large numbers of tourists but this is very much a working village with a vibrant community that takes very considerable pride in it.
Come Novemeber and through to April the air is scented with wood smoke. And it is possible to make visits to the many violet farms in the surrounding area. It is also known as the cité de violettes. The violets are used mostly for the perfume industry in Grasse, but are also used for making sweets and cakes with many local specialities.
The picture here is of the West side of the village sitting on the very edge of the tree covered gorge. So deep is it you cannot see the bottom.
