Seen on the banks of the Rhône at Tarascon, a statue of the Tarasque. A mythological monster, the Tarasque is said to have lived there at the beginning of the 1st century. It was purportedly tamed by Martha in 48 AD.
Tarascon, sometimes referred to as Tarascon-sur-Rhône, is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in southern France. It is located 23 kilometres (14 miles) south of Avignon and 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of Arles, on the left (east) bank of the Rhône River.

I would imagine that the Tarasque has something to do with the naming of Tarascon. It is a curious creature, like something from 'Alice in Wonderland'. The face has a strong resemblance to a teacher that I had a secondary school!
You have given the statue a less menacing appearance by placing it between the softness of the trees and, of course, it is guarded by a surrounding fence.
The strong sunlight on the pale statue has been useful in creating the lovely 'scale shadows'. Maybe a little selective shading on the upper shell would have been advantageous.
Have a great w/e,

nice capture of this strange and intriguing creature. Love the legends that exist the world over of mythical creatures and their tamers. Looks wonderful in this excellent image and presentation.
Enjoy the weekend - B.

an interesting view here. Like the monster tortoise with sharp details. Like the contrasting trees included in the frame. A good one. Tfs.

Good evening Stephen,
Beautiful view of the strange sculpture in white, between the grenn trees.
Fabulous & unique in texture, and well collected with a good contrast.
Have a nice weekend,

That's a strange beastie alrgith, a cross between a man, a car and a tortoise? Interesting creature, and not one I had heard of before so thanks for that. I like how you have framed it here too, by positioning it slightly to the right and facing right, it looks almost as if it is trying to escape before you take you shot, and gives it a sense of mischievous life. Framed perfectly by the trees too. Great shot of a great subject.
All the best

Les arbres cadrent bien la statue. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails et les couleurs de la statue. Une bonne gestion de la lumière intense qui ne nuit pas au rendu des couleurs. Bonne soirée.
