Ghosts Passing By... Photo

Photographer’s Note

I don't know how many faces do I meet each day, I don't know how many dishes I brought...sometimes I need to take a break, to free up my mind...I want my soul to escape from my body and sometimes I see GHOSTS ;o)...

I often to come to this little Italian restaurant in the "Vieux Nice". I like to eat here.

I have also posted a WS of the same scene, but I don't know which one I prefer...

POur moi c'est claire c'est celle la la mailleure, car la femme de tourne pas le dos et tu as meme la fumee de la clope, ca c'est du moment decisif ! Le trouve la capture des passants dans le reflet de la vitre excellent !

Hello Luan,
dur dur de choisir entre les 2 versions. Contrairement à la terreur des pixels j'ai un faible pour le WS. J'aime bien la belle de dos, ça ajoute du mystère et je préfère le reflet du ghost.
En plus le cuistot est pile poil devant l'ampoule de la lampe qui perturbe un peu sur la 1e image.
J'aime bien les teintes... Bravo !

I had no idea why you titled this photo like this until the big version opened up and the reflection popped out at me. Its alwatys satisfying to get these kinds of unusual shots when we just dont expect them. I like the warm hues of the restaurant and the starkness of the reflection. The other contrast is motion vs static.

I was not understanding the title through the thumbnail, now I got it! Well, the "ghosts" don't need to appear in the picture to be a good one, with a very good light and colours. And, actually, I prefer the one on your WS:p

I prefer this one. She surely has got a beautiful back but I think that the exhaled smoked gives the picture more life and captures how stressfull it can be working in a restaurant. It's a good capture of the moment, the silent, still moment before she's got to go back and work.

Eh, sympa comme compo tout ca.
Y a plein de choses à voir, j'adore.
Le mec qui fait sa pizza, un beau mur avec une belle texture, le fantome dans la vitre, la miss posée contre le mur (j'adore sa position et son style),....
Une superbe lumière et un excellent cadrage !
Super bon timing !!!!
Allez tu peux nous dire....tu voulais juste prendre la miss sur la gauche et comme par chance t'as chopé ces fantomes, hein ? :)))

Perso je préfère nettement celle ci. L'attitude du personnage principal à la porte est plus "poétique". Elle dégage une sorte de nonchalence, regard au loin, adossée... Presque sensuelle.
De plus le personnage dans la vitre est nettement plus visible sur cette image et je trouve que ça donne plus de matière à la prise de vue.

Je préfère celle-la, bien que l’autre soit pas mal, mais je la trouve plus harmonieuse et j’ai l’impression qu’elle me raconte une histoire.
La lumière est magnifique et cette dominante jaune apporte beaucoup de chaleur à cette scène.
En tout cas c’est une très belle composition.

A great observation indeed Luan. And rather clear and sharp too. I just wonder if it could have been framed lower at the top...

Difficult to make a choice, I rather like the WS version too, but this time I think I'd have cropped a bit of the bottom.
[Well I'm just a "cropper" I guess, I think it's because I studyed aquarel in my youth and learned that "Less was better than More" ;o)]

Hi Luan, ton petit resto du Vieux Nice a l'air vraiment sympa - je préfère le WS car je trouve le mouvement de la femme en blanc plus dans le sens de la photo -
En conclusion, si le resto est aussi bien que ta photo, on doit se régaler -

c'est vrai qu'on mange bien dans ce petit resto, dommage on ne voit pas les superbes yeux verts de la fille de la maison. bon cadrage, et bon rendu de la texture des pierres.

p.s. je viens de voir l'autre photo, et je pense que je l'aime plus, car là on a vraiment l'impression qu'un fantome passe et j'aime bien la jeune femme de dos.

Superbe ca, Fanfois, ta meilleure image (pour moi) sans le moindre doute. Celle-ci est la meilleure mais la WS n'est pas mauvaise du tout (merde, coment choisir...)Le gars debout en haut a gauche, les reflets one ne peut mieux dans le verre et puis cette belle heroine d'un film francais de Vadim...Tout y est, Luan. Un petit chef d'oeuvre, voila...Francis

très belel photo, j'aime beaucoup ce côté provincial convivial pas de chichi parisien. il y a une jeune femme qui fume, un boulanger et une femme qui passe dans la rue. la vie quoi !

Beautiful picture, you made a very nice composition here..whole place gives a kind of serene and cosy feeling, i think you gave this very well.. i quite like the overexposed outside too..

As u called it a Ghost, i prefer the second one Luan when i really see a woman wearing a white cloth passing by and the reflection on the glass. certainly it adds the value on ur title.. anyway composition wise both are nice .. u got some worm color even.. thats are very well handled here.. nice again Luan.

Ce sont des fantômes, des mirages ou des visions qui donnent parfois l'impression d'un déjà vécu, qui appellent inconsciemment des souvenirs évanouis, qui nous entourent d'une atmosphère "fumeuse"..alors que nous somment bien les deux pieds sur terre et dans la réalité du moment..Ton WS y fait peut-être plus penser..
Mais les deux clichés sont excellents, bravo..

Personally I prefer the main version. Her body position Is more expressive and the fact that the person in the reflection is in an opposite direction brings and interesting “stress” to the composition. Very nice framing. I really like the placement of the woman in the frame near the border with all the counter lines point to her. Great colors, clarity and details.

This is a very nice image of the European daily life, quite fitting the discussion in the forums regarding the lack of Western daily life shots.

Hi Luan, I like both shots for different reasons... the pose of the lady in the doorway of the original version, and the "ghostlike" quality of the reflection in your WS version. So I think the best version would be a combination; I did a quick workshop to show what the combination might look like.

Thanks for sharing! An interesting capture of daily life.
