I’m sure this was intended for a festival or some sort of grand celebration, but it sure provoked a different sort of sentiment…one filled more with fear and confusion!? Good thing it was only a head, can you imagine how large an entire body would have been…the Godzilla of court jesters!
This was just another one of those dumb luck finds as I was walking back to my hotel one late afternoon, scary enough to make me stop in my tracks, but colorful and energetic which made me want to take a picture at the same time…so I did, plain and simple.
Good luck trying to get to sleep tonight with this image running through your mind…you can’t “un-see” it now. Mwhahaha…Sweet dreams! :)
Thanks for stopping by.

Hi, Hurrah, Jason is back! How funny it is and it brings smile when we look at it. perfect composition, great colours. And nothing scary to be afraid, even in the late evening.

I can't believe the Moderators allowed this photo, the Moderators are fully aware that self portraits are forbidden on TE!
couldn't help myself with that one!!!!!!
you walked right into it buddy! haha
As Malgo has said, its good to have your sense of humor back on TE. Fun shot, full of life even though he's lifeless - how Ironic is that?
So cool to hear you're going to Russia! Meeting up with Serghei? awesome, when are you going?
If you get the chance, can you talk some sense into Putin for me? I'm sure he'll listen to you.

The day is still fairly young in Europe but this should already qualify among the brightest and most peculiar photos of the day. Well observed (actually, how could anyone miss a thing like this?) and well composed.
Have a nice day,

Welcome back JayCee
Well what can I say that has not already been covered by others - self portrait! Humm! I did actually think you had gone to a face painting fair and this was impressively you. A jester's eye view of a jester seems appropriate here I suppose. Jester minute, so glad I got that of my jester; sorry this is getting out of hand now. Just jesting with you. Have to admit it is the stuff of nightmares, had this thing about clowns as a kid and "Chucky" still makes me nervous. Did the House of Horrors at Universal a few years ago, you know the one where the characters can move too. I think the guys knew I was easy meat because almost every character came after me - but it was when Chucky jumped out at me that I think my lunch moved violently south. Top marks for originality yet again mate - and thanks for putting a smile on my face and a fright-night in my head. Hope you enjoyed your break.

Long time no see ...
I suppose this was used in the Nice carnival at some stage but you are right, it looks a bit scary and I sure it has given many a poor soul a nightmare. Great capture indeed.
have a great day

Fantastic "portrait" of this not-scary smiling dummy.
The colors and texture are the main attraction here, contrast superbly against the house behind.
Nicely spotted and taken on photo.
Gigidusud (21151) 2014-05-01 11:49

this festival hero is very well made and instantly catches the viewer's interest and attention with his graphic features, strong colours and wide and ambiguous smile. The backdrop is so well defined, adds a lot to the graphism and gives an unsettling sense of scale. I like very much how you combined this perspective with a tight crop and with superb shadows. A mesmerizing effect has been created and I get the spooky sense that any moment now he will turn to look downwards, maybe with a much different expression:) It's a wonderful photo but, influenced by your note, I'm constantly thinking of Stephen King's "It" that years ago made me go to sleep with the lights on for a whole week:) Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Cheers and Bravo from the far South

Great to see you post, and you post back with a big gosh darn creepy bang! Do you know that before the mid to late 80's there was no record of people having a fear of clowns, so it is believe that Stephen Kings movie IT is responsible? Personally I think the world needs more clown based horror (give yourself a laugh, Google Clown Zombies or Clown Demons on image search, and I guarantee you will never sleep again!!)
interesting post, and one I suspect I will see again later. When I close my eyes and the room is dark. Is that the curtain twitching? What is causing that shadow......
hahaha, cheers as always

Modern art come in different varieties. This is a very fine example of this. A very fine capture!
Royaldevon (39792) 2014-05-02 3:29
Oh, Jason, it's colourful, its smiling but it's somehow very scary! I suppose it reminds me of one of the villains from a Superman film!
Whatever, you bravely got close enough for this sharp, detailed shot and escaped to tell the tale ... and show the picture!
Have happy dreams,
mcmtanyel (24041) 2014-05-03 12:55
If you say it's creepy, I'll go along with it, but only if you insist. Nice POV, almost perfect framing of this questionable character.
delpeoples (58618) 2014-05-04 2:09
You're right, we can't unsee this. I'm gonna have bad dreams tonight, clowns freak me out. And that was even before John Wayne Gacy. I love how close you got here, and how you captured all the gruesome details. This photo makes my skin crawl...I love it. Congrats.
mesutilgim (95554) 2014-05-04 11:00
Perfect observed and captured ! Nice TE entry enriched with interesting notes.
Good that you've stopped and captured it.
TFS and best regards
tyro (25718) 2014-05-04 11:45
Wow! This is a picture which simply leaps out of the screen and smacks you between the eyes!
Whatever the reason for this huge and happy jester's face being displayed in the streets of Nice, you have captured this "portrait" perfectly, showing off the vibrant colours amazingly well. Good light, brilliant colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
cornejo (43573) 2014-05-05 8:38
Hi Jason, very good picture of this beautiful and interesting symbol of comedy, beautifully captured in this interesting picture with good sharpness, light and color. Very good and interesting job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.

Wish you a nice day

I don't really mind creepy clowns. Well, as long as they're not creeping around my bedroom! :-) This is actually a great face, and you captured it perfectly. I also notice the change in your profile photo. Going for the fun-house look?! :-) Thanks for all the strange faces you've been posting lately. ;-)

Haha, this smiling head reminds me these funny hours with you and Malgo in the park in Perm, and in 3D gallery where we had have a lot of crazy minutes. LOL!
What's happened, buddy? Why you don't to show your new photos here? I bet you also don't like this system, well I will be glad to see you in FB too.
Best wishes from Krasnokamsk!
