As mentioned in my previous notes, I haven’t followed football in depth like so many fans worldwide, but that doesn’t mean I still can’t have a favorite club…mine being l’OM (Olympique de Marseille). With football taking center stage right now, and this being my only other picture related to the sport, I figure it’s the best time to post it.
Now you may think I’m crazy for liking a foreign team over one of my own countries professional league (MLS) teams, but the MLS has only been in existence since 1996. I was introduced to Marseille in 1989, and once I saw the fever pitch of what football means and how it’s supported, well…it didn’t take long for me to adopt l’OM as my first choice. That being said, my next favorite would be from my hometown, Real Salt Lake. You see, I still have local pride too. :)
I don’t know if this particular bar/café is still around or not, I only recall that it was situated along the Vieux Port strip. Boldly supporting one of the cities proudest components, the awnings display the teams logo, with the motto “Droit Au But,” meaning “Straight to the Goal.” This was kind of a quick shot as I was waiting to cross the street, and was amazed at how warm and golden the late afternoon sun projected onto the busy scene being played out in front of me. Unfortunately in my rush, I accidentally cropped off some feet from the young man to the right…but I’m sure he was just fine.
Thanks for stopping by.

I do not know teams and have no favorite and for sure it is not Legia Warszawa - many years ago I had to change my home route not to come from my work with their fans in the bus. Polish team is bad enough to not take a part in World Cup so of course the emotions are much less. Nice photo of the fans - men mainly - in the evening sun.
Warm regrads Malgo

Well, the man to the right may not be able to play football any longer, but I'm sure he still enjoys the game just as much. :-)
It's not unusual to have favourite teams from other countries. Manchester U, Barcelona and many others make a lot of money from selling souvenirs all over the world.
The afternoon sun is indeed very warm and beautiful. It might have been fun to include a sound file for a picture like this, at least after the game (and a few drinks). :-)

Like the idea of having a café/bar dedicated to the local team of a town or city. Would work fine as long as the town only had one club I suppose. But with the rivalry that exists in some English towns probably not going to happen here. Like the laid back atmosphere and camaraderie that pervades this image. Having warm summer nights to sit and relax in helps the mood I guess……….Experience tells me that once the chanting starts that would be my cue to leave.
Good win for you lot the other night. Will be interesting when you play Germany with Klinsmann being your coach.

Another interesting intro note. I like this photo, excellent street snapshot. Must be a very good young people meeting point.
I'm supporter (not crazy strong( of Swiss FC Basel, one of the oldest soccer clubs in Europe.
FC Basel was started by an advertisement on 12 November 1893 that appeared in the Basler national newspaper requesting that a football team be formed and that anyone that wished to join should meet up the following Wednesday at 8:15. So, on 15 November 1893, FC Basel was born in the city of Basel.

nice early evening atmosphere, lovely warm light and a vibrant scene in which apparently nothing spectacular is happening. But the interaction of the people is vivid and interesting, I like how they look connected and are looking at each other. This must be a characteristic scene of the south, it could easily be encountered in Greece too. The cropped legs still look lovely:) The colours are delightful and I also like how the setting expands through the reflections. Congratulations and thank you! The French team you chose to support has an interesting history and is never boring:)
All the best, have a lovely day,
