One more deceitful perspective to round out this trio, which takes us now to the Bouches-du-Rhône department of France.
Our resident TE Marseiller’s,…Marseilleite’s…uhmmm, Marseillen’s…..help me out here Gigi, what do the locals call themselves?? They might recognize this building right away, especially considering it sits on the cities main thoroughfare, La Canebière.
This is the Société Marseillaise de Crédit, simply put…a bank. Considering this picture and the previous…the odds are now in favor that my first photo in this series could be a bank as well, and how appropriate that the theme of ‘illusion’ would revolve around money!
This building as a whole is wedge shaped, but seeing it head on looks to be more like a Straight Tower of Pisa. :) I’m not smart enough to use the map feature just yet, but if you click here, you can see a Google overhead view. I have also included one online picture that I could find which gives some idea of the larger visual.
Some of you might realize that I’ve plagiarized the title for this shot, stealing an album name from Guns N’ Roses…but I’m almost positive that none of the band members will be seeing this and want to sue me for the nothing that I own, but I felt compelled to come clean just the same. lol
Have a great weekend everyone. Thanks for stopping by.

From what you read I understand it is a kind of Flatiron, it looks really like a tower, but isn't? I saw a photo in Google. Very creative post, splendid original picture and interesting note.
Have a great weekend Malgo

You have discovered and captured very interesting building. I was several times in Marseille but never saw this beautiful structure. May be I used more car transportation and you have been walking, am I right? I'd like see the rooms inside. Must be also very interesting. The round balcony is very practical, you can put your chair either on the sun or shadow side, depending on season. Well seen and captured.
Wish you a very nice weekend.

Beautiful round tower, nit leaning like the one in Pisa, jason, but a slight reminding texture.
Fine outlines and marvelous view upwards. The statues and other decorations on the lintels and the iron banisters, shown exquisitely.
Have a nice weekend,

Thank you very much for your interesting notes, I learn almost everyday on TE.
Wonderful architecture picture, certainly the iron handrails of the balconies.
Sharpness and colours are very pleasant to look at.
Composition and presentation are of high quality.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend

bellissima inquadratura, vista così, sembra un rifacimento della Torre di Pisa in versione marsigliese. Il ws spiega tutto.
Complimenti, un ottimo lavoro e uno splendido colpo d'occhio.

Hi, dear friend,
This title makes me smile, it brings me back to the Guns'N'Roses music. ;) Don't worry, I think this phrase is not a registered name.
Excellent close up, fine details of the bulding. This tower reminds me another one from Italian Piza. Perfect quality, and very interesting note ;)
All the best wishes for your weekend!

Fantastic illusion created with your chosen POV to make this look like a tower. I need not use mine what you have created here is more than enough. Again a fine observation from a keen eye. Like the nice light on the building and contrast between the colour of the building and the sky. Nicely done, thanks for sharing.
timecapturer (40234) 2014-02-22 4:01
Enjoying this little series of architectural teasers. This one is the best so far as it does look like the similar erection that leans in the city of Pisa. ;-). So top marks for observation and cunningly disguising its real shape. It makes for a fascinating shot and there is so much exquisite detailing to see in this fine image.
As for the title steal from G N' R all I can say is, "you ain't the first" to have "a bad obsession" for being "right next door to hell", so "don’t damn me" for committing the "perfect crime" in the "garden of Eden" eating "bad apples" and telling you to "back off b*tch" with your "double talkin' jive". Top that big guy! :-P
Enjoy the weekend - and don’t play that music so loud!

macjake (48333) 2014-02-22 10:02
what a difference it makes having this photographed in the head-on view...the ws makes it seem like an entirely different building all together.
In fact I didn't even think it WAS the same building.
and from here it looks really tall, but in the ws its quite short - you fooled me man!
What I really want to know is how the rooms look on the inside. and is it just me or does it appear the top rooms don't have a railing for safety? lol
pretty cool building, thats 3 vertical buildings in a row now...whats next?
Noel_Byrne (16171) 2014-02-22 10:02
The illusion title is great, especially for a bank! Building? What building? The round decorative one, oh we lost that in a poker game...
When I read your title first, I started imagining what this could be. A well stacked pile of magicians top hat? A really big wedding cake? It's a unique place and a great way to show it. Similar to how you showed the 2d skyscraper, this is very well seen. The light is class too.
Nice one Jason, best wishes from the soggy rock.
cornejo (24573) 2014-02-22 11:28
Hi Jason, another interesting view trap well achieved, very well captured with a great pov with very good and interesting picture. An interesting image of an interesting building, with good clarity and quality. Nice good job perfectly done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.
Good afternoon and happy Sunday.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.
tyro (16748) 2014-02-22 13:55
Well isn't that just so very interesting? That this building isn't a round tower at all but really wedge-shaped - a bit like your very own Flatiron Building in New York, I guess. A veritable illusion indeed! I suppose you must have used a fairly wide angle lens to achieve this viewpoint and perspective.
However you've achieved this, it's not only a fine illusion but it's also a beautiful photograph with lovely light and colours, excellent composition, bang-on exposure and exquisite details and sharpness too.
And, of course, a fine note!
ourania (21414) 2014-02-22 14:01
another delightful play with architecture. I guess the architects have seen pictures like the ones in your series in their minds and designed them on paper (or screen) but it takes a special interest and a special look for the rest of us to see them. I like very much the upward view and the symmetry of your composition. The building displays a fine symmetry from this angle that's delightfully and intriguingly undermined by the play of light and the diverse attitudes of the shutters. I love the light and colours. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,
ACL1978 (6821) 2014-02-22 16:32
Another nice use of perspective - if you hadn't described it, I'd never have known! Now that you say it, of course, I notice the balconies on the left side which provide a hint, but otherwise I would have guessed a Pisa ripoff (never mind a GNR ripoff...) Amazing that all this is a bank as well! I assume there are renters on upper floors, but still quite a nice bit of architecture for a simple bank.

Bonsoir mon ami du Nord
Encore en France?
Never sae such an interesting building, like a kind of lighthouse on top of a very dull building (WS)
Must be dificult to live in that place, no a right place to put books or pictures
Like the statues , this is very similar to some buildings in Buenos Aires
Obviously you walk looking up, great way to discover interesting architectute details at the same time that admiring the BLU sky
Cheer and congrats, just discover a touch of Coca Cola 's red at the top
So your two favorites colors are present
Very well done
Enjoy Sunday in a sporting way

Very interesting and certainly a unique structure!
That's a very attractive architecture picture too!
Sharpness, expsosure, colors, vertical format, black & white borders, chosen pov and composition really pleased me!
TFS - congrats,
Enjoy your Sunday,
krzychu30 (14346) 2014-02-23 1:09
good title:)and really magnificent piece of architecture!
Judging by your WS shot, the bank is only downstairs and above are apartments(and I guess quite expensive)
But apart from that I just love the way you utilized your skills to play so great with the perspective and to make this building much higher than it is in reality. It looks superb in this perspective.
Wish You a nice sunday
karacabeylis (1465) 2014-02-23 5:50
a nice job onto photography on architectures. the details have been captured thru a subtile preliminary study on angle...
Didi (52415) 2014-02-23 9:24
I know very well this old building
Your point of view is very nice
Very good architectural details
worldcitizen (6023) 2014-02-23 12:37
I'm catching up on my critiques today, and you have posted yet another interesting building. Nice idea to have this head-on POV, fooling us into thinking this is the French version of the Tower of Pisa. :-) I like the detailed metalwork, and all the figures on the facade, too.
mcmtanyel (7307) 2014-02-23 13:47
I am sure your title would not be infringing on Guns N' Roses' copyrights unless you were trying to sell your music disguised as photography. So, rest assured, your camera is still safe.
This is a very clever POV. Excellent, humorous composition supported by great competent camera settings resulted in a very pleasant photo.
divail (8198) 2014-02-23 18:14
Belle photo de cette tour, que j’ai reconnue tout de suite, je l’ai aussi photographiée cet été. Je met le lien pour que tu vois à quel point la prise de vue est semblable. L’heure devait différer, j’ai plus de soleil. La voici..
Royaldevon (23402) 2014-02-24 10:50
Another illusion from your camera, you David Blaine of photography!
I immediately thought the building was something like the Tower of Piza and that the illusion would be its apparent vertical axis! Your w/s dispels such thoughts!
It is indeed a much more elongated building!
It is a fine shot.
The statues which decorate it are sharp, whilst the light and shadows and the details of the railings, help to reveal its curved nature.
It stands out well against the clear, blue sky.
My warm regards,
jemaflor (76568) 2014-02-24 23:09
Well presented with this angle and in a perfect vertical format, a building like a tower, impressive effect, good light capture, tfs.

Gidday dear ADB
hehehe your title made me think of a kilted Axl and his hairy cohorts immediately. Ahhh such great times, such chronic tone deafness. Actually I pinched this title too for one of my photos a while ago, so it just goes to show that great vulgarian minds think alike.
A beautiful photo, which contrasts with the image I still have of weaselly Axl in headband and white bike shorts :) Superb depth of field, in fact the building looks three dimensional, it's so nice and sharp. Excellent colours and I like the tight frame.
Have a very happy day, take care
Cricri (95347) 2014-02-25 11:20
hello ami Jason
subhendu_bagchi (23593) 2014-03-04 19:44
a beautiful tower, almost similar to that famous one is here... You framed it superbly with fine depth and razor sharp details. I like your presentation in minimal approach. Great colour contrast with fine light. An interesting composition. Tfs.
