The doorway of an old house seen whilst wandering in the Provencal village of Bonnieux..
Bonnieux is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. It is one of the many historic "hill villages" in the region. Dating back to Roman times, it sits on top of the Luberon hills casting a watchful gaze across the rest of the valley. Next to the village is a cedar forest that began with trees imported from North Africa during the Napoleonic era. It sits opposite Mont Ventoux. Other notable villages in the area include Ménerbes, Lacoste, Roussillon, and Gordes.
The region has been occupied since neolithic times, with evidence scattered throughout the Luberon. Monuments dating from Roman times exist near the village including the Pont Julien built in 3 BC located only 3 miles to the north. A monastery was first built here in the 6th century, and walls were in place by the 10th century. The town reached a maximum population in the mid 19th century, with 2804 people in 1841. It has since declined to less than half its peak with 1363 in 2004.

a nice capture here. The combination of wood and stone is looking superb. Like your tight composition with a minimal view. Well done. Tfs.

You posted an Interesting shot on TE. I was in the Vaucluse department but I wasn't in this village. You have shown that an old and destroyed door can be beautiful.
Excellent idea and composition. TFS
Have a nice day,

Un mélange qui dure depuis longtemps et qui durera encore longtemps. Ici, la lumière joue un jeu très important pour faire ressortir les très beaux détails.

Charming old door. I like the artwork of that facade and the richness of textures. Good catch, have a fine afternoon.

Ciao e buona serata

Excellent textural contrasts between the peeling lacquered wood and the rough crumbling stone. Good sharpness and the wall at left adds perspective and good lead in lines. Superb shadow detail at the top and pin sharp throughout. Tfs!

Great close up on this part of the building, and to be Hensley if it were not for your note and location, I could honestly believe that this was a building from the middle east. There is something about it I think the color of the stone that we see the for me being as easily placed in Petra. Nicely done.
