Photographer's Note

There remain about 1800 "pigeonniers" in the Tarn. Before the French Revolution, they were far more numerous, especially in wine growing areas, where the pigeon droppings were the main source of fertilizer for the grape vines. Being signs of wealth of the nobel propritors, a great number were destroyed, especially the most beautiful ones. This one escaped the wrath of the revolutionaries.
