A medieval village, Conques.
Conques is a village and a major monument on the way to Santiago de Compostela, one of "Plus Beaux Village de France", more beautiful village of France.
Village.
Village and church.
The treasures are banked up in this place which has few equivalents in France and Europe: The romanesque abbey, its tympanum of the last judgment, the cloister, a treasure of goldsmithery, relics of Sainte-Foy, etc...
Benedictine church abbey Sainte-Foy of the 11th 12th 19th centuries, started between 1041 and 1052, completed at the beginning of the 12th century, it is a masterpiece of the Romanesque art of the south of France, famous for its tympanum and its treasure of the Carolingian time. The two towers of frontage date from the 19th century.
The thousand-year-old treasure of Saint-Foy escaped the destruction from the French revolution, thanks to André Bénazech, priest refractory who, in 1794, made distribute and hide the treasure among sure people.
An oratory devoted to Saint-Sauveur, would have existed as of the 5th century, destroyed by Buckwheats, then rebuilt by Pepin le Bref in 730.
the Dadon hermit founded there a monastery at the 8th century which adopted into 819 the rule of Saint-Benoît. This abbey, with the well structured social organization, became a place of prosperity.
_Sainte-Foy born in 290 in the family of a high-civil servant, was baptized by the bishop of Agen, Caprais, in spite of the prohibition of the Christian religion by the Dioclétien Roman Emperor. Condemned to be burned alive on the grill, the rain saved it, it was then decapitated.
_Its courage caused the conversion of pagan soldiers and the return to Agen of the other Christians and bishop Caprais, who all were martyrized.
The worship of Sainte-foy developed in the area of Agen, punctuated of many miracles.
_The relics of Sainte-Foy arrived at Conques towards 866, perhaps stolen by two monks of Conques, and thus escaped the destruction due to invasions of the Vikings.
_At the 11th century, the reference symbol of Sainte-Foy, galvanized the crusaders of Reconquista Spanish.
VIRTUAL VISIT.
Conques is a french commune, located in the department of Aveyron of the Midday-Pyrenees area, populated of 302 Conquois in 1999, distributed out of 31 km², that is to say 10 hab./km².
The village located at the confluence of Dourdou and Ouche, forms at this place a kind of shell, which would have given its name to the village.

Hello Joël,
A picturesque place, characterized by the lovely stone buildings and narrow streets!
The greenery adds life as the great light renders vivid colours...
This is a well balanced composition with a strong feeling of depth!

I think this village holds a certain fascination for you and I can certainly understand why. A fine composition of this beautiful peaceful street with its flower pots and well tended shrubs. I like how the cobbles draw us into the scene. Lovely natural looking tones and excellent sharpness. Have a good weekend.

Joel,
Your composition is great with the cobblestones leading the eye into the shot. The trees and shrubs frame the buildings nicely. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness.

Excellent WE à toi,
Roger

Ciao Joel,
quello che mi stupisce a parte la bellezza della foto è la totale assenza di elementi di disturbo, cavi tubi in plastica ed altro, evidentemente significa che gli abitanti tengono molto a questo luogo.
immagine perfetta e nota interessante

Dear Joel,
In my journey back through the recent months' archives I have reached Conques! This image is delightful although I prefer the more intimate street scene you call "Village." I've enjoyed you entire set and your excellent notes very much and learned a lot. Thank you.
Best regards,
Mary
